About This Game

The realm’s surface is cursed by demons. While you are exploring, you discover some sort of crown. As you pick it up, the ground begins to tremble and the surface starts to rise. You find yourself on a massive, floating keep...

Castle Away is a quick-to-pick-up, run-based strategy game focused on crafting combat synergies on your little castle grid. You slay monsters, scavenge for materials, craft structures, and upgrade your keep to ultimately defeat the Archdemon, and purge the realm.

Build your castle

When starting out, your castle base has a 3-by-3 grid to place structures on, which will expand the further you progress. Structures give adjacency bonuses, so where you place is just as important as what you place.

Create synergies

There are plenty of synergies to exploit. For instance, a Cannon Tower receives +1 attack for every unit of defence (we call it Bulwark) that is created by your walls, but it takes some time to charge up. How much attack is your Cannon Tower able to gather before it strikes?

Battle away

Send your castle into battle and watch your strategy play out as combat resolves automatically. Loot monsters and encounters to strengthen your build. Every encounter you choose draws a demon boss closer, until it surfaces to challenge your keep. Plan your route, claim the best loot, and survive every boss to reach the Archdemon.

Craft structures

You'll find materials along your journey that will let you craft and customise your structures. Demolish buildings you no longer want, to create new ones to take their place.

Retry, ascend, and collect

As in any typical run-based game, you will to try and find the best combinations for your run, in order to beat the game. But that's not the end. You will unlock new castle types with unique structures, banners, and materials to arm yourself against higher difficulty (ascension) runs, which will unlock the most obscure items.

Team

Castle Away is created by three independent creators: René Slump (Gladiator Manager) designs the deep mechanisms and programs the game. Sim Kaart (Rift Riff, Gladiator Manager) creates art and designs a coherent experience. Matthijs Koster (Rift Riff) crafts sounds and creates music.
