What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“As a solo indie developer creating a large-scale JRPG experience, Early Access provides an important opportunity to involve the community throughout development. Building a game of this scope comes with many moving parts, and player feedback will help shape the overall experience in meaningful ways.

Community input will be especially valuable when balancing combat systems, enemy progression, character skills, leveling mechanics, item balance, and overall gameplay flow. The goal is to create a fair yet challenging experience that continues to improve alongside player feedback and engagement.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“The current target for Early Access is approximately 18 months. This timeline will allow enough development time to create and expand planned content while also responding to community feedback and refining the overall gameplay experience throughout development.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The full release is planned to include all content available during Early Access alongside substantial new additions. Planned features include additional playable classes, expanded gameplay systems, new mechanics, story and world expansions, and further content updates designed to deepen the overall experience.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The Early Access version will include the first major arc of the story along with a wide variety of gameplay systems and progression paths. Player choices will meaningfully impact both gameplay and story elements, ensuring that no two playthroughs feel exactly the same.

Players will have access to four unique playable classes, each featuring their own skills, armor sets, weapons, and progression styles. The game will also include side quests, alternate progression routes, and multiple gameplay approaches that encourage exploration and replayability.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We plan to gradually raise the price as we ship new content and features.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“The community is highly encouraged to provide feedback through our discord or the game discussion forums on steam”

About This Game

Soulbound Odyssey is a dark fantasy retro JRPG inspired by classic 8-bit adventures, reimagined with modern soulslike mechanics and an unforgiving world.

You awaken as a chosen soulbound hero referred to as the "child of light" in a land shattered by chaos. Seven demonlords rule over the world with cruelty and fear, warping reality itself. With no memories of your past, you rise against them setting out on a perilous journey to reclaim hope, uncover the truth behind your power, and end their reign once and for all.

Unlike traditional JRPGs, you do not directly control your party members. Your companions are autonomous beings with their own instincts, behaviors, and combat decisions. They fight, react, and survive on their own forcing you to adapt rather than command.

Progression is equally unconventional. There are no standard level-ups. Instead, power is earned through souls harvested from fallen enemies and consumed to grow stronger. These souls can also be shared with any companions you bring with you to strengthen them, thus taking some of the weight off your shoulders!
Every battle matters, every soul counts, and every choice carries weight.

Explore a vast, interconnected world filled with danger, secrets, and lore. Take on main quests and side quests, encounter others who have risen against the demonlords, and witness how desperation, courage, and corruption have shaped the land.
