We're a staffing agency. We send cooks to kitchens. The cooks are you. Today, a bubble tea kiosk. Tomorrow, an economy flight galley. Contract Cooks is a co-op cooking roguelite where you go where the agency sends you and try not to get fired.

What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Early Access suits Contract Cooks as it lets us continue building and expanding the game while people are actively playing it. As a roguelite built around repeat runs and different contract setups, it’s important for us to see how the variety and pacing of each shift feels in practice. Direct feedback will help us confirm what’s working and refine balance, pacing, and future content.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“Contract Cooks will be in early access for approximately 12-18 months.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“We plan to expand the game’s content with additional dishes, kitchens, and contract types. The aim is to create a wider range of distinct work environments, allowing players to take on different roles, from street food vendors to high-end restaurant service, rather than remaining in a single type of kitchen. We also plan to develop a progression system where players can unlock new dishes, locations, and special contracts over time. Cooking stations will be further developed with upgrades where appropriate, alongside light narrative elements that develop alongside the player.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The current version offers a fully playable core gameplay loop, with co-op support and contract-based shifts centred around a single cuisine. Players can prepare and serve dishes, manage stock, and interact with core systems, though content variety is currently limited and will be expanded during Early Access.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We plan to offer the game at a lower price during Early Access to reflect its current state. When we leave early access we plan to increase the price. ”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We’ll mainly involve the community through Discord, where players can share feedback, report issues, talk to us directly and participate in polls. It will help us decide what content to focus on as we expand the game during Early Access.”

About This Game

You're a contractor in the food industry. The agency cares about one thing: whether you can hold down a midnight shift at a diner or a heatwave at a coffee shop where everyone suddenly wants ice. You pick the jobs off the board. Sometimes you walk into a clean kitchen. Sometimes the last cook ran out the back door an hour ago.

Each contract gives you a location, a stint of three to seven days and a set of conditions that fit the place. Office cafes get rush hour. Fine dining gets critics. Airlines get... whatever's wrong with airlines. You start with one dish on the menu and it's usually something simple. Then it gets worse.

Cooking is grounded but quick. A coffee is grind, pull, froth, pour. Bread is mix, shape, prove, bake. Every step is something a cook would recognise, none of them take longer than they need to.

You've got two hands, your co-op partner has two more. Hand things off, top each other up or just work on the same dish together. At least when the milk frother gets left on, there's someone else to blame.

At the start of each day you pick a modifier. Some make your life harder (blackouts, impatient customers, a new dish on the menu you've never made before). Some make it easier (auto stock subscriptions so you're not reordering ingredients every morning, loans for better equipment at the cost of your revenue). Want a chill shift? Stack the easy ones. Want a massive payout? Work for it.

Stock doesn’t refill itself. Order resupplies, collect deliveries from a very reliable delivery company, organise things on shelves or let the boxes pile up. We're not going to tell you how to run it. Rearrange the space, upgrade stations, put in an open fridge if you're tired of opening the fridge. Just don't mind the electricity bill.

Every contract pays. The harder you make it, the more you get. The money builds your resume and unlocks new dishes, cuisines, locations and special contracts. The unlocks carry over. The kitchens don't.

Take a casual contract for chill cooking - no timers, forgiving on mistakes. Take a heroic contract for the chaos - patience timers, real consequences, a payout that reflects it.
