Why Early Access?

“As a solo developer, I have built the core mechanics of the game, but I need time and player feedback to polish and bring the game to its final state by adding secondary features.”

“It will take at least 12 months after the Early Access release to bring the game to its final state.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“I plan to add bow\crossbow shooting mechanics, mounts, magic, settlement sieges, and an advanced progression system before completing the main quest storyline. All of these new features will require careful balancing to ensure players get the most seamless, polished, and immersive experience possible.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The Early Access version features melee combat on the tactical map, interaction with squads and locations on the global map, hiring new warriors in taverns, romance options, and a dice poker minigame. It also includes daily contracts on notice boards and secondary locations to explore. The entire global map is already fully implemented as planned.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“The price of the game will be increased upon the full release.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Players have the opportunity to leave feedback and even share game design suggestions on our Discord server and within the Steam Community hub. To make this process as easy as possible, links to our Discord and Telegram channels are built directly into the game's main menu.”

About This Game

Hired Blade is a tactical turn based RPG set in a medieval fantasy world. Become a warchief of your own mercenary band, recruit hired blades, take on contracts, fight bandits and monsters. Embrace the hard life of a true gritty sellsword!

  • Explore a harsh open world where bandits and rogues roam and pillage the battle-torn land, town guards are itching for a reason to kick you out, weary peasants avoid you like the plague, and enemy soldiers and rival warbands patrol the roads. Escort caravans and travel from town to town in search of coin and new contracts.

  • Clash in brutal battles on procedurally generated, hex-based maps, where each victory is earned through the lives and scars of your exhausted mercenaries, the steel of their rusted weapons, and the last strength of the battered armor they wear.

  • Strip the fallen of their gear, manage equipment, and train your fighters for the next encounter. Hone their skills and choose new perks for every hired blade in your company.

  • When the fighting is done and the relative safety of a town is within reach, you and your men can finally enjoy some well-earned rest. Mercenaries crave hot food, dice games, fistfights, and other pleasures. Play mini-games to restore morale before embarking on your next journey.
