About This Game

About This Game

Subject 404 is a PSX-style psychological horror game where rapid-fire microgames become a system of obedience, pressure, and control.

You wake up as a test subject inside an unknown facility.

You are not given a name.
You are not given answers.
You are only given commands.

A cold mechanical Panel speaks to you.
Read its instructions. Understand them quickly. Obey before the timer reaches zero.

Each room gives you a short command under pressure. Some are simple. Some are confusing. Some may feel wrong to obey.
But hesitation has consequences.

Fast, Unpredictable Command-Based Gameplay

The Panel constantly throws you into short, tense challenges.

  • Shoot specific targets

  • Avoid certain objects

  • Count what is inside the room

  • Find the correct item

  • Drive through short sequences

  • Hide before something finds you

  • Make quick decisions under stress

Every room is built around one rule:

Read fast. React faster. Obey the Panel.

The commands are short, but they are not always clear.
You must pay attention to words, sounds, objects, colors, numbers, and the environment around you.
One mistake can be enough.

Failure Has Consequences

Fail a command, disobey, or hesitate for too long — and the Executioner comes.

You may not see his face.
But you will hear him getting closer.

Death sends you back, forcing you to repeat the pressure until you learn to obey.

Command Rooms

Each room contains:

  • A door

  • A command

  • A timer

  • A choice under pressure

Complete enough commands correctly and you may reach a Safe Zone.
But safety does not mean peace.

Safe Zones and Anomalies

Safe Zones remove the timer, but not the unease.

  • Environmental anomalies

  • Hidden details

  • Notes and fragments of the facility’s story

  • Quiet moments that may not be as safe as they seem

The story is not told through long cutscenes.
It unfolds as you move, observe, obey, and question what the Panel is asking from you.

No Interruptions. No Comfort.

Subject 404 is designed to keep you inside the experience.

  • No traditional cutscene-heavy storytelling

  • No forced camera control

  • No long breaks from the tension

  • No clear sense of who is telling the truth

The facility watches.
The Panel commands.
The Executioner waits.

Visual Style & Atmosphere

  • PS1-inspired low-poly visuals

  • Low resolution and visual instability

  • Cold, sterile, and unsettling environments

The visual style is not nostalgic — it is designed to feel uncomfortable.

Subject 404 is a short but intense psychological horror experience about obedience, control, hesitation, and the fear of making the wrong choice under pressure.
Wishlist Subject 404 and prepare to obey the Panel.
