What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Ashenburrow is a living simulation game — ecosystem balance, wildlife behaviour and crafting depth require real player feedback to be properly tuned. Early Access lets us build the game alongside the community, adjust AI and survival systems based on actual sessions, and deliver a polished experience
before the full release.

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We estimate approximately one year of Early Access. The beta covers the core of the game — survival, crafting, wildlife AI, underground exploration. Beyond that, we plan to develop deeper systems — construction, cooperative play, factions — shaped by how development progresses and the feedback we gather along the way.

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The Early Access version delivers the core of the game: survival, crafting, underground exploration and a simulated wildlife and flora ecosystem. We plan to expand the full release with advanced construction systems, co-op multiplayer for 2-4 players, additional wildlife species and biomes, a faction and character system, and deeper talent and equipment progression. The exact content will evolve based on community feedback during Early Access.

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The Early Access version is playable and includes the core systems of the game: procedural underground world generation, hunger/thirst/health management, crafting and basic constructions, a combat system (melee and projectiles), and a simulated ecosystem where wildlife hunts, feeds and breeds through a planning-based AI. Character progression (XP, stats, basic talents) is functional. Content covers Tier 0 and Tier 1 of the game.

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We plan to increase the price as content and features are added throughout Early Access. Players who join early get the lowest price.

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We plan to publish regular development devlogs and actively monitor the Steam forums to gather feedback and bug reports. Community input will influence content priorities and game system balancing.

About This Game

Ashenburrow is an underground survival and simulation game where every creature, plant and resource follows its own rules of life.

An ecosystem that breathes

Wildlife doesn't just wait for you to fight it. Armoured isopods, burrowing mole-rats, stealthy shadow spiders — each species seeks food, mates, flees danger. A juvenile follows its parents. An adult guards its eggs. Destroy one link in the food chain, and the world adapts.

Surviving in the depths

Manage hunger, thirst and health across a procedurally generated network of underground tunnels. Scavenge, butcher, craft your first tools. Build a shelter before predators find you — and manage your light, because in the dark, they see you first.

Crafting & construction

From simple recipes to your first workbenches. Place your first structures, manage your campfire fuel, develop your camp step by step. What you can build depends on what you've built around it.

A simulation, not a hack'n'slash

Ashenburrow is not a dungeon to clear. It's a world to understand, to exploit with patience — and to respect. Creature AI is real: they plan, adapt, and remember you exist.

Co-op 2-4 players coming soon.

Mature Content Description

The developers describe the content like this:

Ashenburrow contains combat against creatures and humanoid characters (bandits, goblins), including their death and the butchering of wildlife corpses. The game deals with survival themes in a hostile and dark environment. It includes crafted alcohol and plant-based medicinal substances. Nudity is limited to the player character sprite when unequipped, rendered in a highly abstract pixel art style.
