The sky lies beneath our feet.Above stretches a vast plane. From it hang forests of inverted buildings, linked by narrow corridors and pipes. They stand in silence, like upside-down obelisks pointing toward the eye of the sun. This game reveals an upside-down world through words and unique visuals.

Story

Neuropa, 2005.

Two hundred years have nearly passed since the fall of the Roman Empire.

The world has been turned upside down—because humanity reversed gravity.

When gravity was redirected toward the outside of society, modernity freed itself from its burdens. Everything heavy, troublesome, or deemed an urgent problem was cast away into an unseen place.

Yet society never truly possessed the power to completely distort gravity.

And so, everything that had been thrown away returned in a hideous form. The heavy structures that were cast down came crashing back into our world.

The story follows Karelia and her companions.

One day, Karelia is suddenly arrested by the Settlement Bureau. Rumors say that the Bureau has begun rounding up unemployed people throughout the Outer Ring and deporting them to the lower levels.

Not long ago, a catastrophic engineering accident struck Sector 83 of Neuropa's Outer Ring. The Second Main Frame collapsed onto the district, causing immense destruction.

In response, the Regional Authority organized a large-scale rescue operation. An advance team arrived to recruit volunteers willing to enter the sector and assess the disaster.

Hoping to avoid arrest by working for the rescue effort, K and her companions volunteer for the mission.

But will they succeed?

Our planet is already at full capacity.

This is not a statement of natural geography,

but a diagnosis of society itself.

As old ways of life crumble

and cities exert their gravitational pull,

the land no longer fit for human habitation

has indeed continued to grow.

Behind the grandeur of industrial production

lies a factory line whose true product is waste—

be it the refuse that resists disposal,

or the surplus of those who are no longer required.

Yet, the land once thought vast enough to contain them

has vanished from this planet.

In response to this problem,

gravity was reversed.

Like the metabolism of a body,

we periodically export the by-products of modernity to the “outer world.”

So long as modernity remains a privilege,

this cycle will not cease.

And since that moment,

our souls have been driven away

by gravity.
