What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Unconquered Sun is a game built around a variety of interconnected systems which influence each other in ways which are difficult to fully predict alone.
The goal of early access is to develop these mechanics alongside an active player community, revealing strategies, balance and pacing issues, and emergent gameplay which cannot be replicated internally.
Development will be a continuous process throughout early access, with updates focusing on improving issues and quality of life, adding new features, and polishing the overall experience. Moving the game towards a complete and polished product.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“It's hard to gauge a timeframe as a solo developer balancing real world commitments. I expect the game will remain in an early access state for approximately 1-3 years. This depends on the scope of features, along with the scope of external responsibilities. The priority is towards a stable release rather than rushing towards a fixed release date.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“Unconquered Sun will continue to evolve throughout development. The exact scope is flexible, and will be guided both by planned ideas and how players interact with the game.
Existing features will be refined and expanded upon where possible. Planned features involve the addition of more modules, smarter AI opponents, and further strategic and economic mechanics. While multiplayer is not planned for the initial early access release, I plan to add multiplayer in the longer-term due to the technical complexity involved.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The current early access version of Unconquered Sun contains the foundational systems and core mechanics for the main gameplay loop. Players can interact with the large scale simulations, for further information, the "About This Game" section of the store page will be kept up to date as the game progresses.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“No.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Community feedback will play a major role in the development and direction of Unconquered Sun. Because the game is heavily systems driven, that is, many gameplay effects are a result of the combination of these systems, player experience will be extremely valuable. Player suggestions, criticisms, and observations will help future refinement, quality of life, and balancing. The community will help identify the most engaging mechanics, and conversely, the least engaging.
I will primarily be active on the Steam discussion forums among other socials and community panels. The goal is to maintain an active dialogue with players throughout the development process.”

About This Game

CAREER ROGUELITE

One captain, one life, one career. Sign a charter, fly the voyage, and return home to get paid, refit, and save your progress. Take on increasingly dangerous contracts with the same ship, carrying your upgrades and reputation forward.

Unlike a traditional roguelite, successfully completing a voyage doesn't reset your run, instead, it saves your progress. Push your luck as the war escalates, or retire with your fortune.

Die, and the entire career is lost.

A GALAXY AT WAR

Human and alien factions fight for territory across a living star map, and the war never waits: borders move while you sleep through warp. Haul supplies to the front, raid under a letter of marque, run blockades, salvage the wreckage or mine contested ground. Every job shifts the balance, and the harder you hit a faction, the harder it hits back.

FULLY PROCEDURAL

Every career generates a new star map, a true three-dimensional field of stars at real scale. Each star has to-scale planets and realistically calculated orbits, populated by procedurally generated stations and structures with their own markets and economies.

BUILD YOUR SHIP

Grow from a micro-vessel to a capital ship with a modular builder and over 100 modules, each with unique functions and styles. Manage power, heat, propellant and thrust, staff crew rooms to boost your systems, then let your guns do the rest. Big and loud or small and cold, every build has its place.

LIVE ABOARD

You never leave first person. Fly from the bridge, walk the corridors, and feel every hit as fires spread and hulls breach. Every part of the vessel is simulated and operable.

LIGHTSPEED

Information travels at the speed of light: News, orders, and reports arrive late, the war moves in real time. What you see is an outdated snapshot of the changing galaxy.
