Update 7 is live!

Added to the store:

  • New DLC: El Viejo Stadium

Major additions:
  • Weekly Pennant Race shake-up: added Mojo and Fitness modifications to players in Pennant Race that change from race to race based on team usage and team win rates.

  • On a stolen base attempt, it is now more difficult for the runner to successfully retreat back to their starting base, especially in online play.
  • With the exception of base stealing as noted above, base runner fatigue when changing directions has been reduced.
  • Various improvements to net code for better online play experience, including: i) Fewer hit balls suddenly changing directions or being called a strike, and ii) Fewer throws snapping from a good power score to a reduced-accuracy score.
  • In online play, less additional substitution time is awarded after successfully performing a substitution.
  • In online co-op play, the base running and fielding users can now initiate a substitution via the shortcut button.
  • Changed the font on the player cards to be more legible.
  • Pennants on the Pennant Race Awards screen now listed from newest to oldest.
  • A queued throw is now cancelled after a ball is booted (i.e. plays where the "!" appears over the fielder's head).
  • AI outfielders now tend to take more conservative routes when they think that the ball is too far away to be caught for an out.
  • AI fielders are now less likely to attempt to double-off a runner when there is next to zero chance of the throw being on time.
  • AI base runners now tend to be more aggressive on balls hit in or through the infield.
  • Better camera angles in some scenarios following a hit-by-pitch.
  • In the Player Editor, all players can be randomized at once by doing "Apply To All" with the "Randomize!" button selected.
  • Generating many teams at once is now faster.

Issues addressed:
  • Fixed: Customized batting routines not playing in Pennant Race
  • Fixed: Leaving the chat window while batting would cancel the batter's step out, even while holding the step out button.
  • Fixed: In online play, the game would sometimes play slow motion after a hit when it should not or vice versa, causing a jarring transition from slow motion to real time.
  • Fixed: In online play, performing a defensive swap without a substitution would incorrectly award additional substitution time.
  • Fixed: In rare instances, an AI pitcher could throw way behind the batter, and the result would be a "phantom" hit-by-pitch.
  • Fixed: In online party play, kicking a user while they were in the substitution menu could potentially prevent the game from continuing.
  • Fixed: Umpire calls "Safe" twice in very quick succession on certain plays.
  • Fixed: The umpire crew is the same for all season games within a given play session.
  • Fixed: In online co-op play, after getting hit by a pitch on the previous play, in some cases the now base running user would see the ball lying on the ground instead of in the pitcher's hand during the next pitch.
  • Fixed: Various crashes and bugs in the front end while playing a co-op season or elimination.
  • Fixed: In some situations, the game would allow the user to pin the same Pennant Race award to multiple slots.
  • Fixed: "Apply to All" not working correctly for customization options in the Swagger tab.
  • Fixed: Inconsistent pant stripes appearing on some body type / pant type combinations.
  • Fixed: Female hair passing through hat for some head type / hair type combinations.
  • Fixed: Pitch bend arrow color tweaked and given an outline to be more visible.
  • Fixed: Various minor UI bugs.

Update 6 is live!

  • Further tweaks to Pennant Race Ego assignments (slightly higher Egos to reduce offense / run totals).
  • Have the AI be somewhat more willing to bring in the closer in the early and middle parts of the game if necessary.
  • After making an out in the outfield with no runners on base, AI fielders now ensure that they throw the ball in to someone in or closer to the infield.
  • Allow the pitcher to be the selected fielder on more types of infield hits up the middle of the diamond.

Issues addressed:
  • Fixed: In online play, the ball stutters substantially after being bunted or hit on certain infield plays, especially when the fielding user is at high Ego.
  • Fixed: Slow motion special effects not properly working in online play.
  • Fixed: In online play, the batter's bunt state could become out of sync after the batting user enters the pause menu.
  • Fixed: Error noise fails to play when attempting to start a pitch from the stretch before the pitcher has finished coming set.
  • Fixed: AI-controlled outfielders still sometimes jog or hesitate while the user is controlling another fielder.
  • Fixed: In rare cases, the AI makes a poor decision to go for a tag out over a forced out on the back end of a double play.
  • Fixed: Outfielders sometimes run towards the infield on deep fly balls / home runs.
  • Fixed: Middle infielders sometimes run towards home plate immediately after contact on fly balls to the outfield.
  • Fixed: AI makes a double switch that inadvertently sees the new position player playing out of position.
  • Fixed: In online co-op, the catch sound fails to play and ball ribbon trail fails to disappear after the ball is fielded in some cases.
  • Fixed: In online co-op, balls hit to the AI in the infield can appear to get past infielders before being caught.
  • Fixed: In online play, on ball 4, the batter returns to his batting stance after tossing his bat in some cases.
  • Fixed: In online play, the substitution button would remain visible after an auto-ball resulted in ball 4.
  • Fixed: Throwing minigame sometimes flashes twice or appears inadvertently on short throws.
  • Fixed: Crash in Pennant Race when opponent closes the game or disconnects while performing a missing pitcher substitution.
  • Fixed: Base runners who have fully tagged up can suddenly take off on their own immediately after a ball is caught for an out.
  • Fixed: Floating bat can be seen during the post-game summary in Pennant Race if the opponent forfeits between innings.
  • Fixed: Customized batting helmets not being used in Pennant Race and were instead replaced with the base helmet.
  • Fixed: Incorrect Slugging % calculation in Pennant Race team statistics screen.
  • Fixed: Crash when trial expires while in game.
  • Fixed: Blowfish's home park changed to Swagger Center instead of Colonial Plaza if it hasn't been customized. 3 teams were using Colonial Plaza, and only the Overdogs were using Swagger Center.
  • Fixed: Red Rock Park missing stadium speaker causing there to be no announcer or walk-up music.
  • Fixed: Bringing up the chat wheel cancelled step-outs.
  • Fixed: In Online MP, hit balls sometimes appear to change directions slightly during slow motion.
  • Fixed: Trying to retreat a runner sliding after another runner reaches the base behind them can sometimes inadvertently stop the runner sliding, potentially leading to the game crashing when the runner was sliding into home.
  • Fixed: Color of pitch bend arrows tweaked to be more visible in Red Rock Park.

“Whether you're playing alone, online or couch head-to-head, SMB 2 is simply fun. You're not overwhelmed with overly complex mechanics, but also not dumbed down so far that you aren't challenged. From a gameplay standpoint, it lives in its sweet spot.”
8.6/10 – Forbes

“The follow-up keeps the accessible hitting and pitching mechanics, smooths over some rough edges, and adds everything that was missing, including multiple online modes, a detailed team editor, and custom leagues. Basically, it does everything a sequel should do, and the result is the best on-field baseball sim on PC.”
88/100 – PC Gamer

“New players can expect a solid game of baseball with enough arcade magic to appeal to almost any type of player. Baseball purists will find a good time if they enter with the proper expectations. As it stands right now, Super Mega Baseball 2 is now the top dog of baseball games on the PC.”
8/10 – Shack News
