What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“I am a solo developer building Every Step Counts as an growing collection of educational mini-games. While the core experience (with 3 complete game modes) is ready to play, I believe a game about learning should grow with its students.

I am launching in Early Access because I want the community to help decide what we build next. By releasing now, I can focus my development time on the specific math concepts and game mechanics that you actually want to play.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“I plan to keep the game in Early Access for approximately 6 to 12 months. This gives me enough time to polish the existing modes and add at least 2-3 major new mini-games based on player feedback.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The full version is planned to be a more comprehensive 'Mental Gym.' I intend to add:

More Game Modes: Expanding from the current 3 to a target of 5-7 distinct mini-games.

Deeper Progression: More unlockable skins or visual themes for your profile.

Steam Achievements: A full suite of achievements for pulling off difficult calculations.

Steam Leaderboard complete integration”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The current version is fully playable and stable. It includes:

3 Complete Game Modes: Ouroboros (Logic/Snake), Brainy Cashier (Arcade Math), and Code the Math (Algorithmic Logic).

Progression: Local save systems and high-score tracking are implemented.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Yes. I plan to gradually raise the price as I add more game modes and content. Getting the game during Early Access is the best way to get the full collection at the lowest possible price.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“I view the Community Hub as my design meeting room. I plan to use the Steam Forums to run polls on which game mode should be developed next. If players find a specific level in 'Code the Math' too confusing or a timer in 'Brainy Cashier' too fast, I will be actively tuning the difficulty based on that feedback. I am building this for you, so I will be listening to you.”

About This Game

Hi! I’m a solo developer, and I built Every Step Counts because I wanted to prove that "educational" games don’t have to be boring. My goal was simple: create a place where you can relax, solve some math problems, and accidentally get sharper at math and logic while you're at it.

The game is currently a collection of three distinct mini-games. I’m launching in Early Access because I want to add more modes later, but the core experience is ready for you to play right now.

Here is what you can expect:

Ouroboros: Every Step Counts

The first game is Ouroboros, a calm but tricky puzzle starring a snake with terrible eyesight. You are the designated navigator. Armed with a calculator, your job is to guide your snake friend’s every step to eat the apple, grow longer, and eventually capture the whole grid.

You’ll need to add, subtract, multiply, and divide to reach the target. The riskier the operation, the higher your score reward. It’s not about doing complex calculus; it’s about looking ahead and planning the perfect path. It starts easy, but you might find yourself staring at the screen for a good minute trying to figure out the only way to win.

Brainy Cashier: Every Change Counts

If you want something faster, I made a mode that puts you behind a cash register. The premise is simple: all the store's calculators are broken, so you the mathematician have been drafted to save the sales day.

The line moves fast, and you need to calculate totals and hand out exact change before the customers get annoyed. If you take too long, they get angry and your score tanks. It’s a rush, and it really tests how well you can handle mental math under pressure.

Code the Math: From Formula to Function

This is for the thinkers. Instead of just answering questions, you build the solution. You are given inputs and a goal, and you have to code the logic to create a function that solves the equation.

Often, a single line of code is all you need to solve the problem, if you can find the right one. There are currently over 20+ levels included, each designed to test your ability to translate pure mathematics into working code.

One Score for Everything

I connected them all with a system called Knowledge Points (KP).

Whether you are solving a slow logic puzzle or rushing through the cashier mode, everything you do earns you KP. This score is tracked on a global leaderboard, so you can see how you stack up against other players. It’s just a fun way to track your progress as you get better.

I’m working on this game alone, so your feedback really matters. If you have ideas for new math mini-games or features, let me know in the community forums or Discord Server!

Thanks for checking out my game.
