What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“This visual novel releases episodically, and until the full story is released it cannot be considered "complete". The goal is to keep working on it, publishing chapter after chapter, in order to progress the story little by little until it is finished. It is also a way to gather feedback along the way, and to make it clear that for now, the story is unfinished.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“It will remain in early access until the full story is done, which likely will take several years.
Each major update/release of a new chapter is intended to be a full experience within the whole of the story, with new art, dialogue, fleshing out of the world, and new pages in the in-game journal; ideally, I plan to have one to two major updates every year. ”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The current plan is that the full version would have a more complete story, with several more chapters. It may also have a few addons to older chapters (extra sprites for side characters, more music, etc).”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Currently, 5 chapters are finished. ”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“No, the game will remain free forever. ”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“While the big strokes of the story are already decided, depending on what people want to see the most in terms of future creatures, ecosystems, etc, I will try my best to include those. ”

About This Game

Kalops has always been fascinated by the flora and fauna of her world, Okali. Though she used to get all the knowledge she could want from books, her village is too isolated to get enough new material to keep her satisfied. Pushed by her desire to learn, she departs on a grand journey around the world, and finds more than she expected...

Wandering Okali is a visual novel with strong focus on fantasy creatures and their biology, which lets you follow Kalops, her best friend Saspi and strange lady Gloria on a world trip around Okali, discovering and learning about unique animals, magical plants, and even mysterious entities.

Each chapter is expected to be around 10k words or more.

This VN is a kinetic novel. This means there is only one main narrative, and any choices you are presented with will only have very short-term consequences.

What you can expect:

Lots of art: Feast your eyes on the many painted CGs and backgrounds, the field notes in the style of old scientific illustrations, and the many silly doodles that complete the visuals of the story. Perhaps even an animation or two, once in a while~

Immersive worldbuilding: With the story's focus on the natural world, you will learn about the tiny bugs and the grasses unique to this world, as well as the giant magical beasts and the ethereal landscapes.

Girls, girls, girls: Most, if not all the characters will be girls (or girl-adjacent). And lesbians, most likely.

A bright and whimsical atmosphere: You can expect to see lots of beautiful, vibrant colors and intricate details!
