'Since I am a solo developer, although, one with decades of gaming experience, I would like to involve potential players in the development process. I already have what I think will be a great game design, but would definitely like feedback on it as I go to help ensure it's the most fun I can make it.'

'At this time I plan to be in Early Access approximately 12 - 15 months after it starts.'

'The full version is planned to be a complete, stable and polished experience. In the full version, I plan to have a fully fleshed out, dynamic and fun dungeon crawling game play experience that dovetails meaningfully with a tactical battle campaign and a story keeping players engaged while tying the game modes together.

Whereas the Early Access version, is planned to contain the most recently developed, ever-expanding and possibly changing set of content and features being worked on.'

'The game is in early alpha.

Working Features:
+ Game play is currently limited to dungeon crawling. There is no outside world or tactical battle system yet (tactical battle system has an early concept teaser, check external links).
+ Gamepad or keyboard + mouse controls.
+ Character creation. Choice of 2 classes, and stat allocation (stats have no effect yet).
+ Class designs are not finalized, and the release version will have several more classes.
+ Dungeon selection. There are 2 styles currently. The release version will have many more styles.
+ Dungeon crawling includes exploring variously sized randomly (algorithmically) generated dungeons, fighting the monsters and finding loot. There are 10 unique monsters so far (5 per dungeon style) and very few loot items.
+ Characters can level up and gain HP, but other character systems are incomplete.
+ There is a working mini-map and full screen map to track progress through dungeons.
+ There is a working event log to ensure players can review their combat performance, loot picked up, actions taken, etc.
+ Game is automatically saved at all times. Play and stop at your own pace.
+ You can play multiple characters - each character's progress is saved separately and a saved game can be selected using Load from the main menu.

Caveats:
+ The game is in early stages, most systems and mechanics are not implemented.
+ As in any actively developed software there will be bugs. They will be fixed in due course.'

STORY

You are the heir of a powerful house, who built their reputation as artificers of the rare and prized stellar metal, Aretium. Many and wondrous are the works of Aretium - from inspiring architecture, sculpture, and functional devices such as the famous dueling automatons... to deadly weapons.

All was well until suddenly the Sovereign declared your family traitors and had them arrested, seizing everything they had as property of the state. You managed to evade capture and disappear into town, bringing only what you could grab in haste. 

Starting only with your basic skills and an unfinished prototype automaton (which you have designed to represent a Dragon, a legendary creature lost to time), you will forge a new path, pursue the truth and find a way to clear your family of wrongdoing. Learn the origin of the blighted countryside known as The Scar, the history of how the Dragons were banished, and why the Sovereign wants all the Aretium. The Sovereign is rarely seen in public, but they will attend the first of the newly announced championship Automaton Games, which takes place in five years... you must prepare to win, as only the best will compete.

DUNGEONS

Classic CRPG style dungeon crawling with real-time combat. Gain experience, level up your character, improve your stats, choose custom perks, and specialize in the skills you prefer. A broad skill system provides many different ways to play - mix melee, stealth, magic, and adventuring skills the way you like.

Delve deep into dungeons (and catacombs, towers and other monster infested places...) that make it dangerous to travel into the countryside. Dungeons are entered at will from the outside world wherein the main story takes place, featuring map exploration, role playing, towns & other points of interest. In dungeons you will also find the rare resources you will need to design and power up your Dragon automaton.

TACTICAL BATTLES

New sections of the map and story progression are unlocked through tactical battles, using not your character but your Dragon automaton, a technological and magical device that you build and customize over the course of the game. Appearance and abilities will depend on how you build it. Improve it in both form and ability to become the most feared fighter in the arenas! Witness the fury you have unleashed in turn-based, retro style tactical automaton battles.

  • You must repair and improve the Dragon automaton over the course of the game using resources obtained in dungeon game play.

  • Dungeons are built on demand by Quinquennial's algorithms (non-AI, just procedural) according to their style.

No AI-generated assets are used in this game! Every model, texture, artwork, SFX, VFX, et al, is either original hand-crafted work by ABCodeworld, or a licensed asset made by another human artist. I am not anti-AI, but until we find better ways to use AI in game development, I don't plan to use AI-generated assets in my games.
