What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“I want to get real player feedback on the core co-op loop (two-layer arenas, shared economy, four classes) and on the meta progression system before I lock in larger systems like more classes, towers and maps. Early Access lets me iterate quickly based on what players actually enjoy.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“My current plan is to keep Chthonian TD in Early Access for roughly 6–12 months. This may change depending on feedback, how much content I add, and how many players are actively interested.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The full version is planned to expand the existing meta progression (more crystal upgrades and unlocks), add more enemy types, additional maps/biomes, more classes and towers, and general polish and quality-of-life improvements.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The core loop is playable: 1–4 player online co-op on PC (keyboard & mouse), Dungeon and Wide modes, six regular waves that introduce new enemy types, a Wave 7 boss and an optional Endless mode after the boss. There are four base towers plus one class tower per class, run-based XP upgrades, and a basic meta progression system where you earn crystals after a run and spend them on base stats (damage, move speed, attack speed, attack range and max health). There is also a simple in-game library where you can look up classes, towers, enemies, perks and resources. English only; no controller support or in-game chat yet.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Yes. The Early Access price is lower. I plan to increase the price slightly when the game leaves Early Access to reflect the additional content and features added over time.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“I’ll be using Steam discussions (and player reviews) to gather feedback on balance, new content, meta progression and quality-of-life requests. I plan to adjust enemy difficulty, towers, classes and future features based on what active players report and what keeps co-op runs fun.”

About This Game

Chthonian TD

is a dark, stylized co-op blend of action roguelite and tower defense. You don’t just place towers—you run, shoot, and swap between a combat platform above and a mining layer below. Spend a shared wallet wisely, hold the line through six escalating waves and a boss (Wave 7), then push your luck in Endless. Runs are quick (about 10–15 minutes), tense, and built for “one more try” with friends.

Play your role. Four classes make the team click: the Fighter carves space and bails you out, the Miner fuels the economy, the Engineer shapes lanes and keeps defenses running, and the Medic stabilizes the push with heals and clutch revives. Everyone contributes, and your money pool is shared—coordination matters more than raw stats.

Build on the move. Crossbows handle single targets, cannons blast clusters; class towers give each role a power moment (Blade Tower for the Fighter, Farm Tower for the Miner, Crossfire for the Engineer, Heal Tower for the Medic). Enemies come in different categories—normal, anti-AOE, anti-projectile—so you need a mix of projectile and AOE damage to stay ahead. XP drops between waves let you grab clean upgrades like Damage, Move Speed, Attack Speed, Range or Max HP, enough to make each run feel different without slowing the game down.

Progress beyond a single run. After each game you earn crystals based on how far you got. You can invest them into permanent base stat boosts—extra damage, move speed, attack speed, attack range or max health—so your team starts the next dive a bit stronger and can push deeper into the mines.

Maps that stay fresh. Each run seeds a new crystal-lit mine with two distinct feels: Dungeon (tighter rooms) for scrappy holds and Wide (open fields) for flexible setups. Swap layers instantly to plug leaks or scoop resources, keep your silhouettes readable with class colors and outlines, and rely on clear VFX instead of visual noise. There’s no friendly fire; this is about teamwork, not team griefing.

Art style. Chthonian TD uses a stylized low-poly dark fantasy look: chunky silhouettes, hand-crafted forms and cozy dungeon lighting. Stone, runes and glowing hexagonal crystals create a clear, readable battlefield that supports fast tactical decision-making.

What’s in Early Access
• 1–4 player online co-op (keyboard & mouse on PC)

• Two modes (Dungeon and Wide), six regular waves plus a boss (Wave 7), optional Endless afterward

• Four classes with unique active abilities and a class tower each

• Core towers: Crossbow, Cannon and their upgraded versions

• Per-run XP upgrades; tight shared-wallet economy; basic crystal-based meta progression

• Seed-generated maps in a crystal mine biome

• Simple in-game library to look up classes, towers, enemies, perks and resources

• English only; no controller or in-game chat (yet)

Vision
This is a small, honest Early Access build focused on the core loop. If enough players enjoy it, the plan is to expand with more towers and enemy variants, additional maps/biomes, deeper meta progression and new class options. For now, it’s all about tight, replayable co-op that respects your time:

Fight above, mine below, survive together.
