Bogeys, Ghosts & Gods is a non-linear visual novel with elements of traditional Chinese supernatural this miserable world, a young boy must do everything he can to seize the chance to survive, face parting with his companions, and bear a mission that isn’t his own.

The story begins against this backdrop

The Great Famine was both a natural disaster and a man-made tragedy.

The powerful were ruthless, monsters ran rampant, and the common people suffered from hunger;

The aristocracy acted unjustly, ghosts and demons ran amok, and the people were left to suffer.

Story Synopsis

A young boy (Bingli) and his younger sister struggle to survive during a time of famine while searching for their missing mother, only to unexpectedly reunite with Mr. Ye.

From that moment on, the boy steps from one tragic fate into another—a tragic, fantastical one.

To stay alive, the boy and his companions embark on an unimaginable, fantastical journey of escape, encountering strange and eccentric “people” and witnessing bizarre and mysterious “events”.

The boy's journey gradually reveals the truth behind everything. When the truth is finally uncovered, even the evil deity cannot accept it, and the boy will have to make a decision regarding this mission that is not his own.

An Original Visual Novel

Bogeys, Ghosts & Gods draws upon the Eastern supernatural elements of the classic Chinese ghost story collection Tales from a Chinese Studio (Liaozhai Zhiyi). Boldly breaking free from the constraints of traditional adaptations, it weaves together Eastern folklore, fantasy adventure, and higher-dimensional sci-fi concepts to construct an original visual novel.

Narratively, the game takes the endings of several original chapters as the starting points for new characters, spinning untold, mysterious webs of cause and effect that are seamlessly woven into the main storyline. This is not a conventional adaptation; the story stands completely on its own, allowing players to become fully immersed with absolutely no prior reading required.

Nonlinear Narrative

Explore the pasts and endings of a diverse cast of characters—humans, demons, ghosts, and even gods—whose lives shape the young protagonist's growth.

Each character has their own thoughts and obsessions, yet they all seem forever bound by the will of “heavenly fate”.

Traditional Art

Game graphics are primarily drawn on paper, with artists using tools such as pencils, fine-liner pens, brush pens, and ink to create their work.

The completed artwork is scanned at high DPI to create a “digital master”, after which the content undergoes standardized digital adjustments. (Supports up to 4K resolution.)
