What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Provinces is a complex world-simulation sandbox, and Early Access gives us the chance to grow it alongside the community. The core systems — such as map creation, province management, biomes, and characters — are already playable, but our long-term goal is to explore deeper political systems, trade, diplomacy, and richer world simulation across multiple time periods.
Early Access allows players to experiment with the foundation, support development, and help shape the direction of the project. We understand that things will evolve and change over time, and we aim to remain transparent and open with our audience throughout that process.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“At this stage, we expect Provinces to remain in Early Access for roughly 10–12 months.
This timeframe may shift depending on community feedback and development needs, but our current goal is to reach a major milestone around October 2026. We’ll continue to share regular updates and progress reports through Steam news posts and community discussions.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“Our long-term goal is to expand the simulation depth and world interaction systems over time.
We hope to explore features such as new forms of currency, religion, more dynamic events, deeper diplomacy, larger conflicts, new biomes, and additional technology layers. We also aim to continue refining the UI, performance, and overall polish as development continues.
These plans may evolve based on feedback and feasibility, but the overall focus is on growing the living world built during Early Access.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The current build includes full province creation and editing tools for custom map-making, working biome assignment, basic civilization growth, character ambitions, time progression, an event framework, functional UI, and a sandbox map environment.
It’s stable enough to play, experiment, and build your own basic world — though content density, balance, and polish are still early in development. Bugs may occur, but we’ll be addressing them continuously with community input.
For details, please see the About This Game section, which is updated with each patch.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Our intention is to gradually increase the price as more content and features are developed and added during Early Access.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Player feedback is central to how Provinces evolves.
We use the Steam Community Hub and Discussions for bug reports, feature ideas, and general feedback.
We also plan to hold community polls every two weeks to guide development priorities and share updates through our YouTube channel (linked on the store page).
Regular dev posts and patch notes will be published directly on Steam.
We’re also preparing a Discord server and additional social channels, which will be linked once they’re active.”

About This Game

WHAT IS PROVINCES

Provinces is a Sandbox Nation Builder but the player takes on a unique role instead of playing as a nation as you would expect in most nation sandbox games the player instead takes on the role of a god watching over the map and influencing events and giving leaders ambitions which affects the growing world in a dynamic way. as the nations try to develop and achieve there own goals themselves.

WHATS THE GOAL?

Every Individual has there own goals from simple things like developing a city or researching a certain technology to more extreme things like declaring wars of conquest or murdering family members in order to put themselves in a more promising position now these goals or ambitions as they are called in game can either be generated by the character and put there by the player using the grant ambition function which is the main way the player will control events but characters have a level of free will and can disobey or go rogue even though the player is a god they will stay face challenges and uncertainty so its like playing high stakes chess and every character of every dynasty is a tool for the player to use or a threat to what there trying to achieve.

CREATE CUSTOM DYNASTIES

In Provinces the player has the ability to make custom family trees and watch them evolve and grow as the game progresses every character can be influenced, every single character is unique they all have custom traits and appearances either made directly by the player or generated through the game you can influence every character of every Dynasty use them all as pawns in creating your perfect world.

MAKE CUSTOM WORLDS

The player has the ability in game to make custom worlds whether there realistic or almost like specific small maps used for things like nation battle royales the player has the ability to make custom maps built of Provinces basically small pieces of custom territory that act as the building block of making the custom worlds which in game nations will be able to inhabit, develop and conquest
