About This Game

Race to the heart of a cell

Shrink down and speed through a luminous microscopic world. InCell VR combines arcade racing with route planning: dodge barriers, collect proteins, hit speed boosts, and stay ahead of a pursuing virus. Your destination is the cell's nucleus.

Along for the ride is The Most Excellent Assistant Zero-Seven, a sarcastic robot with very little faith in humanity. Saving the volunteer, Mrs. Jane Smith, might just give her a reason to reconsider.

Choose a route. Make every boost count.

Race along cylindrical tracks, steering around their surface to collect useful pickups and avoid obstacles. Between races, choose which organelle to visit next. Different stops offer upgrades and advantages that can improve your chances against the virus.

Speed matters, but so does your route through the cell. Spend the proteins you collect on upgrades and work your way toward the nucleus before the virus catches you.

A microscopic world with a very opinionated guide

Travel between cell structures inspired by real organelles, with brief introductions to their roles and commentary from your robot assistant. The cell provides the setting for a science-inspired arcade adventure.

The layout is generated anew with each start, changing where the organelles appear. Learn the racing rhythm, experiment with routes, and unlock harder difficulties.

Features

  • Fast arcade races through a colorful cellular world.
  • Route choices, protein pickups, and upgrades between races.
  • New organelle layouts on each start and harder difficulties to unlock.
  • Head-tilt steering in VR, with keyboard and gamepad control options.
  • Free to play, with a regular-screen mode that does not require a VR headset.

Controls and comfort: Space recenters the VR view; Esc opens the pause and options menu. VR steering uses head movement rather than tracked hand controllers. The fast, continuous movement can cause discomfort for some VR players. If a connected gamepad interferes with mouse and keyboard input, disconnect it. The Linux version does not support VR.

A note about modern VR headsets

InCell was developed during the early PC-VR era of Oculus Rift and HTC Vive. Some of the older drivers and VR software used by this release are no longer supported. The game still works on many setups, but newer headsets or software may cause launch, display, or control issues. After so many years, we cannot thoroughly test every modern configuration.

InCell is free, so you can try it on your setup without a purchase. A non-VR mode is also available.
