What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“As a solo developer, my goal is to build a horror experience that adapts to the player’s fears in real time. Early Access lets me refine the core survival mechanics - like the Lethal Camera, oxygen management, and deep-sea threat behaviors - while actively working with the community. Your feedback will directly shape how unpredictable, atmospheric, and terrifying the abyss becomes as development continues.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“My current estimate is 6 to 12 months. This gives me the time to add new features, creatures, lore depth/hints, and polish the overall atmosphere without rushing the project. The exact length may shift depending on community feedback and the scope of content expansions.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The full version is planned to be a much more expansive descent. I’m aiming to add more diverse threats with adaptive behaviors, additional atmospheric features, and deeper narrative/lore elements. While the core survival loop will already be in place, the final release will include significantly more content, environmental storytelling, and long-term progression.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“At the start of Early Access, players will be able to explore the abyss, manage oxygen and other resources, use the Lethal Camera, and encounter several deep-sea anomalies and predators. The first iteration of creature AI, atmosphere systems, and companion dialogue will already be implemented, offering a tense and replayable survival experience. Performance and polish will continue to improve throughout Early Access.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Yes. Early Access players will receive the game at a lower price as a thank-you for supporting development early. The price will gradually increase as major content updates roll out and the project approaches its full 1.0 release.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“The community will play a huge role in shaping this project. I’ll be actively monitoring the Steam forums and Discord to gather feedback on creature behavior, atmosphere, balance, and new feature ideas. Whether you’re reporting terrifying encounters, suggesting AI improvements, or submitting ideas for dialogue, player input will directly guide future updates.”

About This Game

Note: Co-op/Multiplayer feature is intended to be added some time after the game makes its debut!

How deep are you willing to go before the light disappears for good?

Why’s It Getting DARKER?! is a first-person psychological survival horror set in a suffocating, pitch-black ocean. You aren't just a researcher; you are prey. Your only connection to the surface is a malfunctioning PDA, a small island, and a darkly sarcastic AI that seems a little too comfortable with your impending doom.

CORE SURVIVAL FEATURES

  • 📸 THE LETHAL CAMERA: Your camera isn't just for research. Document hostile anomalies to uncover the truth, but remember: looking through the lens means you aren't looking at what’s behind you.

  • 💨 OXYGEN IS A PRIVILEGE: Manage your every breath while they are watching you. In the deep sea, every breath is a countdown.

  • 🤖 A 'HELPFUL' COMPANION: Navigate the gloom with the guidance of a sarcastic AI assistant. Listen closely - its "glitches" might be the only thing keeping you sane, or the very thing driving you mad.

"Dying from oxygen? Will be very embarrassing for you" - AI assistant

  • 🦈 UNPREDICTABLE AMBUSHES: From rarely-seen leviathans to aggressive modified creatures, the ocean's apex predators don't follow a script. They hunt based on your sound, your light, and your fear.

    Development Footages:

NO HANDHOLDING. NO SECOND CHANCES.

Explore a massive underwater world where the threats evolve as the water gets colder and the pressure rises. Fight, flee, or photograph - but every choice consumes time you don't have.

The darkness is alive. And it’s angry.
