About This Game

Aetherion is a 2D action-adventure with exploration, combat and terraforming. Play as Spark and travel through five interconnected realms, face their guardians and reshape the landscape with your tool.

The Essence Light that holds the world together is fading. Life still flourishes in the forests, while other regions are already showing signs of decay. Discover what happened to them as you explore.

Explore five connected realms

The realms flow into one another, each with its own landscapes, inhabitants and varying levels of Essence Light:

• Origin Grove: Sunlight filters through the trees of a forest still full of life.
  
• Shadow Forest: The fading light has left visible marks on the surrounding landscape.
  
• Mushroom Cave: Glowing mushrooms illuminate the underground landscape.
  
• Crystal Grove: Among the crystals lies one of the world's quieter places.
  
• Sky Islands: Your journey takes you up to floating islands above the realms.

Explore the paths between them and investigate ancient ruins for clues to the world's past. Take your time and look closely to learn more about these places and their history.

Face the guardians

Along the way, you will encounter hostile creatures and the guardians of each realm. Their trials stand between you and the next region.

Resonant tools

The Resonance Anchor is your tool for exploration and reshaping your surroundings. Unlock additional abilities as you progress, expanding what you can do with it.

Its function is closely tied to Essence Light. Where the light is strong, you can heal and shape the landscape. Where it fades, the anchor becomes less stable. The condition of your surroundings affects how you can use your tool.

Build and reshape the landscape

Building and terraforming let you shape your surroundings. Alter the terrain and create your own structures in the realms you explore.

Your actions also affect the Essence Light. Strengthen it, and life can return. Draw it away, and decay spreads further. You change both the shape of the landscape and its condition.

You can continue exploring, building and reshaping the landscape after completing the story.

About development

I'm developing Aetherion on my own. The trailer and screenshots currently show an early playable section. The features described here represent the planned scope of the finished game and have not all been implemented yet.

Generative AI tools were used during development to help create and refine some visual assets and promotional artwork. I select and review all assets used and edit them as needed. AI-assisted development tools are also used for programming. Music and sound effects were created without generative AI. No AI-generated content is created during gameplay.
