What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Project AIRI is already usable as an AI companion, but the experience is still evolving. Early Access lets us improve reliability, performance, onboarding, character interaction, and experimental game integrations with feedback from real desktop users. We want to validate the core experience openly while continuing active development.”

Approximately how long will this software be in Early Access?

“We do not currently have a fixed date for leaving Early Access. The timing will depend on the stability and completeness of the core companion experience across the platforms we continue to support. We will share material schedule changes through Steam news and release notes.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The full version is expected to offer a more stable and polished core AI companion experience, with improved onboarding, character and voice interaction, screen-context features, performance, and supported integrations. Priorities and scope may change in response to development progress and Early Access feedback; future features are not guaranteed until they are implemented and announced.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The current Early Access build supports importing VRM and Live2D character models, text and voice conversations, screen-context responses, and experimental Minecraft and Factorio integrations. Live-generated cloud AI features require an internet connection and a free AIRI account. The build is suitable for testing the core experience, but users may still encounter bugs, performance issues, incomplete flows, or changing features.”

Will this software be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“The Steam edition is free to play during Early Access. The launch build has no in-app purchases and does not require a paid subscription. If our pricing or service model changes in the future, we will announce it in advance and update the Steam store disclosures before the change takes effect.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Players can report bugs and share suggestions through Steam Discussions or the Project AIRI GitHub repository. We review reproducible reports, community feedback, and code contributions as development capacity allows. Important changes will be communicated through Steam news, release notes, and the public project repository.”

About This Software

Project AIRI is an open-source desktop AI companion application designed to bring an interactive virtual character to your computer.

The current Early Access version allows users to import VRM and Live2D character models, communicate with their companion through text and voice, and let the companion respond to screen context. It also includes experimental integrations with games such as Minecraft and Factorio.

The Steam edition provides access to live-generated AI features through an AIRI account and AIRI-managed services. Users are not required or permitted to enter third-party API keys. An internet connection and a free AIRI account are required for cloud-based AI features. Supported local features may be used without connecting an external paid service.

Project AIRI is currently in active development. Features, integrations, performance, and stability will continue to evolve based on development progress and community feedback.

AI Generated Content Disclosure

The developers describe how their game uses AI Generated Content like this:

Project AIRI uses live-generated AI for player-initiated companion conversations and synthesized voice responses. In the Steam edition, these features are provided through an AIRI account and AIRI-managed services. Players cannot enter third-party API keys or configure custom AI providers. Cloud AI features require an internet connection and a free AIRI account.
