What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“CubeMate is playable and fun right now, but several features are still in development. The campaign is partially complete, the weekly challenge system isn't implemented yet, and controller support needs more polish. Releasing in Early Access lets players experience the core gameplay now while I continue building toward the full vision. I'm committed to seeing this through and am actively responding to feedback.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“Roughly 6–12 months. As a solo developer with a day job, I can't give a precise date, but the plan is to ship the full campaign, weekly challenges, and all planned features within that window.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The plan is to make it feel smooth while on keyboard+mouse or via controller, diverse campaign, tricky levels, and more.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The game is fully playable. Free Play mode works on all cube sizes (2x2 through 7x7) — you place chess pieces on a rotating Rubik's Cube and find the winning move. The first chapter of the campaign is available with handcrafted puzzle levels. Keyboard and mouse controls are complete. Larger cube sizes (6x6, 7x7) may have some performance limitations. The core loop — rotating faces, selecting pieces, solving chess puzzles in 3D — is complete and polished.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Not planning to.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Player feedback directly shapes the game. I read all reviews and Discord messages, and community input influences which features get prioritized. I plan to post dev updates on Steam for major releases. Bug reports and difficulty feedback especially are taken seriously — the goal is to ship the game players want, not just the game I imagined.”

About This Game

Think in three dimensions.

CubeMate is a puzzle game where chess meets the Rubik's cube. Each level places chess pieces on a rotating 3D cube — your job is to find the right move, from the right angle, to solve the position.

Features

  • 10 hand-crafted campaign levels, each introducing a new mechanic

  • Free play mode — set up any position and experiment

  • Clean, minimal 3D visuals built in Godot 4

  • Keyboard, mouse, and controller support (coming soon)

  • Windows support

How it works

Rotate the cube to change your perspective. Chess rules apply — but the board isn't flat anymore. What looks like a dead end from one side might be a checkmate from another.

Who is this for?

If you like chess puzzles, spatial thinking, or just satisfying "aha" moments — CubeMate is for you. No chess mastery required; just curiosity.

Free Demo

Try the first levels for free. No time limit, no pressure.

Built by one developer using Godot 4. Feedback welcome.

AI Generated Content Disclosure

All AI-generated audio was reviewed and curated by the developer. No gameplay code or puzzle logic is generated by AI at runtime; the use of AI is limited to pre-generated audio content included in the build.
