Why Early Access?

“While most of Boll's Journey's mechanics are ‘done’, Early Access allows me to gather feedback on what feels right to players. The goal isn’t just to finish a game — it's to shape one people enjoy. It's also a chance to smooth out things that seemed good on paper but turn out annoying in practice.

There is currently about 3 to 10 hours of gameplay, but the nearest updates will likely double that number. The current 3 to 10 hours depends on how fast players will pick up on the mechanics.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“It’s hard to put a date on something as unpredictable as making a game. Boll’s Journey was meant to hit Steam end of May — it’s now July. So yeah. It’ll take as long as it takes, but it certainly won’t be forever. The current plan is to keep the game in Early Access for 3 months, to get feedback on the current mechanics, if it all 'checks out' then it'll be out of Early Access.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The full version of Boll’s Journey is planned to have more content, expanded story elements, improved systems, and — eventually — sound. That’s the plan. No wild overhauls, just more of what already works.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Boll’s Journey is mostly done. All core mechanics are in, and it’s fully playable from start to finish. That said, if something feels clunky or frustrating — especially UI — it can and will change quickly. There’s very little sound right now, but the rest is stable and fun. Please see the 'About this game' section for more information.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“There is no plan to increase the price of Boll's Journey as new content and features are added. ”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“The community is invited to send feedback to the email listed on this page. That includes bug reports, suggestions, questions, or just yelling into the void. Other ways of contact may also be included soon.”

About This Game

What kind of game is Boll's Journey?

Boll's Journey is a top-down puzzle adventure where you play as Boll — a mysterious glowing sphere with a past, a purpose, and a not-so-obvious future. Fight your way through hostile Shapes, solve puzzles, outrun Appearing Shapes, weave through bush-filled mazes, and uncover a cryptic story across shape-infested battlefields and surreal dimensions.

Puzzles & Strategy

Use as little energy as possible to make it as far as you can. Hit Buttons (in the right order) to pass through gates, or eliminate (or leave) the right Shapes to unlock the path forward.

Nature vs Geometry

Nature pushes back against the Shapes' expansion, forming maze-like paths and chaotic battle zones. Be careful not to get caught in the crossfire between wild terrain and synthetic invaders.

Story & Exploration

Travel through gardens, parks, suburbs, cities, jungles, and beyond in a seemingly never-ending journey — slowly piecing together what Boll is, why you're helping them, where the Shapes came from, and what it all means.

Voices will whisper. Some will guide. Others may deceive. Who do you trust?

The world is vast and always shifting. You'll explore:
