What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“While the core mechanics of Middenmoon are ready, the game is an unusual take on the factory genre, being focused on disassembly and dealing with complex recipe feedback loops. It has the potential to grow in unexpected directions based on player feedback, and Early Access is the natural place to allow that progression.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“About 1 year. However the final release will need to meet quality and content expectations of both player and developer, so the EA period may be adjusted accordingly.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The full release of Middenmoon plans to expand on the unique energy-beam mechanic, potentially allow for multiple layers or multiple moons, and include a sizeable new construction project as the final production goal. While the simple abstract look and feel will remain, a number of graphical, UI and QoL improvements are in the pipeline. There's also a modding API in progress.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“There is content with enough depth for building a serious factory and having fun trying to meet some tough production goals. Expect to spend 10s of hours at a minimum, but more likely days, trying out different designs and re-tooling your factory. There are also various tiers of upgrades available to assist with scaling up or fine-tuning throughput, which in turn have their own production mini-goals.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“The price will eventually increase inline with content.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Any and all feedback is appreciated! The DevLogs will continue, and the modding API is in progress to allow the community to contribute. Jump into Discord to talk about ideas and wish-lists, and report any bugs.”

About This Game

Mission Briefing

Location: Skubalon IV

Survey notes:

  • Old Empire waste facility (type 3b; a midden-moon)

  • Energy crystals present (zero-point tech; still active)

  • Reclaimable resources estimated worth: 7 trillion kudos

Directives:

  • Excavate the identified sites

  • Power the facility using the crystals

  • Deliver all resources requested by the Hub

A factory game in reverse

Take complete products and strip them down into materials and resources. Juggle recipes that yield more items than you put in. Sort sushi-belts. Deal with the irredeemable waste and excess items somehow.

No ordinary base layouts here

The ancients left free energy just laying around in crystals, yay! But they emit energy beams that don't behave like your familiar set-and-forget electricity grid, boo! At first glance the colorful beams don't seem to cross, but there's probably a way to engineer your way around that problem with some tricky optics.

Old-empire AI can help out

AI trained on advanced ancient tech is potent and you'll need them to help with safe disassembly and classification of stuff. They're also extra creative when in groups so delivering a bunch to your Hub to collaborate together will unlock a range of base upgrades.
