What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“We believe NULL Train will thrive with community involvement. Early Access gives us a chance to build around real player feedback, such as, refining combat, improving level variety, balancing upgrades, and introducing new train car types. Our goal is to create a tight, replayable roguelike that evolves meaningfully over time.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We expect NULL Train to remain in Early Access for 3 to 8 months, depending on community feedback and feature roadmap. We plan to regularly release updates with new content, improvements, and polish as we work toward a full release.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The full version of NULL Train is planned to include additional train car types, more enemy variety, expanded weapon and equipment systems, new visual environments, and more unique gameplay modifiers like NPC encounters, and multi-objective rooms.

We also intend to improve game balance, polish animations and effects and continue refining the core gameplay loop based on community feedback.

Our focus during Early Access is to deliver a solid, replayable roguelike experience and build upon it meaningfully over time.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The Early Access version of NULL Train includes a playable core loop with procedurally-generated train cars, fast-paced combat, randomized enemy encounters, and an early set of weapons, equipment, and permanent upgrade options.

Players can fight through multiple train cars per run, experience a variety of room types, and begin unlocking skills and items that carry across attempts.

While the foundation is solid and fun, the current version is still in active development and will continue to expand with new content, balancing updates, and quality-of-life improvements.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We plan to increase the price after Early Access to reflect the additional content and polish added throughout development. Early Access supporters will get the game at a lower price as a thank-you for joining us early.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We’ve created a Discord server and Steam Community group where players can share feedback, report bugs, suggest new train car types, weapons, and upgrades, and participate in playtests. Player input will directly shape the game’s balance, feature roadmap, and future content.

We'll also post development updates, polls, and patch notes regularly, and we’re committed to listening closely as the game evolves through Early Access.”

About This Game

Overview

NULL Train is a 2D pixel-art roguelike where you fight, adapt, and survive your way through an endless, procedurally-generated sci-fi train. Each train car is a new level — some filled with enemies, some with hazards, or strange physics like zero gravity.

Battle your way through, collect items to unlock permanent upgrades, and try to push further with each run. When you die, it’s back to the start — but with better gear, sharper reflexes, and a new strategy.

Design

  • Fast-paced side-scrolling combat with melee and ranged weapons

  • Jetpacks, energy swords, and futuristic gear to unlock

  • Randomized train cars: enemies, multi-floor layouts, gravity shifts

  • Permanent progression system: earn "ticket stubs" to unlock skills, weapons, and equipment

  • Gritty sci-fi pixel art style with atmospheric lighting and cinematic vibes

  • Designed for replayability, learning, and experimentation — every run is different
