What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“We need confirmation that the project's foundation is viable before adding more elements that could complicate debugging later on.
We therefore wish to gradually add elements while listening to player feedback to improve the game before the final release.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“Roughly 12-18 months, but we hope to release the finalized game as quickly as possible, while prioritizing functionality over time constraints.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“New Civilizations: We're considering introducing new civilizations, each with its own unique characteristics such as magical or steampunk themes, complete with distinct resources, buildings, or technologies.

Population Satisfaction: We envision a system where your population evolves alongside your city. As it develops, citizens may have increasing demands, and neglecting their needs could potentially lead to strikes.

Trade: Initially, we're thinking about implementing a basic resource exchange mechanism between players to provide support during challenging times in your friends' cities. Eventually, we'd like to explore a more sophisticated economic system that considers supply and demand to influence resource values.

Diplomacy: While the game may not feature AI factions, we're interested in incorporating diplomacy to allow players who prefer not to co-manage a city to establish enduring relationships, whether economic, military, or technological.

Combat: We appreciate the appeal of peaceful gameplay, but we also recognize that some players enjoy the military aspect. We're contemplating the addition of combat elements, whether through AI attacks during random events or friendly in-game disputes that can be resolved through military means.

Mods: We understand the significance of mods in enhancing this type of game, and we appreciate the ability to customize our gaming experience. Our aspiration is to support mods, enabling the community to create civilizations and other game elements as they see fit, thereby transforming the experience according to their preferences.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Currently, the game allows you to develop your city cooperatively or not, in single-player or multiplayer modes. Only one civilization is available, with the objective of making your colony survive against time and hunger.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We plan to increase the price once the V1 version is released.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We want the community to inform us of any bugs encountered and their ideas for improvements. Players can reach out to us via the Steam forum to share their feedback. We may not be able to satisfy all players, but we will do our best to make the game appealing to as many players as possible. If there is significant interest and engagement, we may consider opening a Discord server for more direct communication and community interaction.”

About This Game

Oikizo is a city-building game. Start by placing your first building and a few citizens, then make your city prosper. The strength of Oikizo lies in the ability to manage a city cooperatively with your friends. Currently in early access, the game offers a randomly generated map of considerable size and a "classic" civilization. We have initially focused on the basic mechanics. In this version, you can develop your city alone or with friends, without any imposed objectives for now. We have implemented a famine defeat condition that will be your priority in this version.

We are aware of the absence of certain aspects and assure you that we have many ideas for this game. However, we need player feedback to ensure the base is stable before adding new features.

This game has a unique feature: the ability to play the same city with your friends. You might think that managing ten buildings with two players isn't very exciting. We understand, but our vision is to create much more than a simple town with a few buildings. Indeed, we have chosen to implement a relatively large map size so that your small village can grow into much more than a city. We want players to be able to build and develop enough for the city to transform into a small country. This is where co-management makes the most sense.

Whereas you might typically manage a beautiful city with a hundred or a few hundred inhabitants, imagine being in charge of thousands. Managing their demands, continuing to grow your city while defending against attacks, involves a significant number of tasks. More than playing a city next to your friends who help you if they feel like it, you play the same city, and they will have as much interest as you in defending the territory that is yours.

For your information, here are the elements we will add later:

  • New Civilizations: Each will have its specificities (magical, steampunk, etc.) with unique resources, buildings, or technologies.

  • Population Satisfaction: Your population will evolve with your city, and the more developed it is, the more demands your citizens will have. Be wary of strikes if you neglect your population too much.

  • Trade: We will start with a classic resource exchange mechanic between players to support (or not) each other in times of difficulty in your friends' cities. Later, we plan to implement a more advanced economic system considering supply and demand to vary the value of resources.

  • Diplomacy: Although the game does not feature AI factions, we will integrate diplomacy to allow players who do not wish to co-manage a city to establish lasting relationships, whether economic, military, or technological.

  • Combat: We appreciate calm and peaceful games, but we are aware that some enjoy the military aspect. Therefore, we plan to implement this feature in the game. Whether through AI attacks during random events or simply if your friend has upset you, it will be possible to correct them amicably in the game by presenting your army.

  • Mods: We know that mods are an essential part of this type of game, and we also appreciate the ability to modify a game to add elements we like. Therefore, our goal is to support mods so that the community can create civilizations and other game elements as they wish, transforming the experience to their liking.
