What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Early Access gives us the opportunity to actively involve the community in shaping the game’s development. Deckbuilding games in particular benefit greatly from continuous iteration, balancing, and player-driven feedback—as seen in titles like Slay the Spire.

Our goal is to use Early Access to refine gameplay systems, improve balance, and expand the overall experience based on real player behavior and suggestions. We are committed to actively supporting the game throughout this phase, regularly updating it, and working closely with the community to bring it to a polished full release.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We don’t want to make a precise commitment at this stage. However, we are planning a larger update around mid-summer, which will include an additional playable class and several smaller features. Beyond that, future development will be guided by community feedback.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“We expect the full version to primarily improve in terms of balancing. We will actively incorporate player feedback in this area, as well as feedback related to UI and overall game feel. Our goal is to create a more refined and cohesive experience that increases both replayability and gameplay depth.

We are currently experimenting with additional content, such as a second playable class with its own set of cards. This class, along with other potential additions, is being prototyped internally.

While these ideas could expand the overall experience, our primary focus remains on improving and refining the existing content. At this stage, we prefer not to make firm commitments regarding new features, as the exact scope and priorities may change over time based on community feedback.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The current Early Access version already offers a complete and playable core experience. Players can dive into a deckbuilding game inspired by titles like Slay the Spire, featuring our first playable class, the Guardian.

You can unlock and experiment with over 60 cards, allowing for multiple deck archetypes and playstyles. Each run is unique and resets upon defeat, encouraging replayability. For players seeking an additional challenge, the game includes multiple difficulty levels (Ascensions).

In addition to the deckbuilding core, the game features RPG elements. Players explore the world of Kryom, manage an inventory, craft potions, collect relics, and progress through a skill tree that directly interacts with the card system.

All core visuals, animations, and sound are already implemented and represent the intended quality of the final game. The main focus during Early Access is on balancing, expanding content variety, and improving long-term progression.

Please note that specific features and systems may evolve or change during Early Access based on community feedback, as we continue refining the overall experience.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We currently plan to increase the price towards full release as the game becomes more polished, balanced, and feature-complete.

Our goal is to reward early supporters by offering the game at a lower entry price during Early Access, while also giving them the opportunity to actively shape the game through their feedback.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“The community will play a central role in shaping the game during Early Access. We actively collect feedback through our open Discord server, where players can share suggestions, report issues, and discuss ideas directly with us.

We also plan to run regular polls and discussions around smaller features, balance changes, and quality-of-life improvements. Player feedback will directly influence our development priorities, especially when it comes to balancing, new content, and overall game feel.

In addition, we aim to provide regular updates on development progress to keep the community informed and involved throughout the process.”

About This Game

What makes Darkest Cube special?

How does it compare to games like Slay the Spire and other roguelike deckbuilders? We asked our playtesters:

“In contrast to Slay the Spire, the deckbuilding works differently. Even if you collect many cards, you can remove them very easily. This means you can constantly refine your deck into the best possible version. But never underestimate weak-looking cards — some become incredibly powerful at higher levels.”

“The level tree is an interesting feature that supports your cards. With the right balance, every deck archetype can work. Also, gaining body parts from defeated enemies and brewing potions is a unique addition to the genre.”

“It is a brutally hard strategy game. On the highest difficulty, the challenge is to adapt your strategy multiple times during a run. It is the only way to survive.” FailFive

A True Deckbuilding Experience

Copying a deck from the internet will not save you.

With over 60 cards per class, you will discover three major archetypes, each with its own strengths and weaknesses. Success comes from understanding when to shift your strategy.

You can regularly adjust your deck in cities, but also during runs using your Side Deck — a limited set of preselected cards that allows you to stay flexible. You are not at the mercy of randomness. You are always in control.

Deckbuilding and adaptation play a much bigger role than in similar games. There are no frustrating forced choices between useless cards. Progress is more deliberate, and mastering your deck takes time.

Tactical Turn Based Combat with RPG elements

In battle, every decision matters.

You choose which cards to play each turn, carefully managing your energy while reacting to unique enemy behaviors and abilities.

Sometimes defense is the key.
Sometimes aggression.
Sometimes that one forgotten card saves your run.

"Adapt or perish. Every turn counts."

Anyone who loves the core combat system of games like Slay the Spire and enjoys RPG mechanics should pay attention — this game has a special twist. Cards alone are not enough to achieve victory. Upgrade your equipment, which directly influences your abilities, collect body parts from defeated enemies to brew potions, and most importantly, invest your skill points after leveling up into a skill tree that has a direct impact on the strength of all your cards.

A Dark Fantasy World to Discover

Explore the lands of Kryom, a world caught between powerful forces.

Your mission is to seal the mysterious Dark Cubes. These cubes appear across the land, unleashing creatures that threaten humanity’s survival. As you progress, you will uncover their origins and begin to question whether humanity itself may be responsible. There is also a mechanic that hardly anyone understands — Darkness. It causes chaos, and especially in the Cubes it seems to have an effect. Research this mechanic further to understand what is behind it.

Why Early Access?

Games like Slay the Spire have shown that deckbuilders thrive with strong community involvement.

Early Access will allow players to:

  • Influence the direction of the game. We will regularly introduce new content and features, and the community will be able to vote on how they evolve.

  • Shape the game’s balance through feedback on mechanics and systems in our Discord server.

  • Share insights and suggestions directly with the developers outside of official voting periods.

We want to build Darkest Cube together with our community.
