What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“2 Cooks 1 Mess is a chaotic co-op cooking adventure where precision, teamwork, and a bit of friendly sabotage make all the difference. But more importantly this game has been built from the ground up with community-driven iteration in mind.

Releasing in Early Access allows our team to cook the game with you, not just for you. By letting players jump in as early as possible, we can gather live feedback, observe how teams really play, and refine the game’s systems, recipes, challenges, and pacing directly alongside the community.

We’re a small studio and improving the game together with players in real time is incredibly valuable to us. The sooner we can get 2 Cooks 1 Mess into your hands, the sooner we can make it the best (and messiest) kitchen experience possible.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We estimate 2 Cooks 1 Mess will remain in Early Access for around 6-9 months. This may change depending on community feedback, how players engage with the different modes, and the amount of polish and additional content required to deliver the final release we have in mind.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The Early Access version already contains the core gameplay loop: cooking, coordination, chaos, npcs, kitchen upgrades, and unlock progression.

However, we plan to expand the game significantly for the full version. Our current plans include:
More levels and unique kitchen layouts
Additional recipes, ingredients
Expanded difficulty settings
A progression overhaul, including long-term goals, unlock tracks, and kitchen customization

We plan to improve the game week by week with new content, balance updates, and quality-of-life refinements. The final version is expected to feel bigger, more polished, and filled with player-requested features.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The Early Access build includes our core gameplay systems and several fully playable kitchens. Online co-op is implemented, recipes are functional, and the main challenge/score system is already in place.

Players can cook, coordinate, dispatch npcs, unlock new items, and experience the complete gameplay loop and we plan to add new content, new tools, and new surprises on a weekly basis.

While the game is playable and fun, we want to continue improving pacing, depth, challenge variety, and overall polish based on your feedback.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“The current plan is to keep the game free to play. The will be micro-transactions in the future but only for skins and cosmetics.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Community involvement is central to how we want to build 2 Cooks 1 Mess.

We want to hear from you: your ideas, your frustrations, your funniest kitchen disasters, and what kinds of challenges you want to see. You can contact us directly through Discord or Steam discussions.

We’re a small team, and you’ll often see us interacting with players directly. If you see names like Darkirby3 or Linkupdated, those are the core developers of the project but anyone on the team with a [Staff] or [Developer] tag is there to help and listen.

Your feedback will shape the recipes, the difficulty curve, the game modes, and everything in between. Together, we’ll turn this messy kitchen into something amazing.”

About This Game

Welcome to 2 Cooks 1 Mess! A chaotic online multiplayer cooking game where running a restaurant is equal parts skill and survival. Manage a team of cooks, servers, cleaners and dishwashers, each with their own strengths, and try to keep your kitchen under control. Prepare dishes, serve customers, clean nonstop and deal with unpredictable events that turn every shift into pure culinary madness. Play solo or team up online and climb from struggling rookie to real restaurant master.

Online Multiplayer Chaos

Jump into fast, messy and unpredictable kitchen action with friends. Work together or fall apart as orders pile up and ingredients fly across the room. The fun comes from the chaos you try to control.

Employees Management

Manage your own crew of cooks, servers, dishwashers and cleaners. Each employee has strengths that affect how they work, and you can improve their skills to shape the perfect restaurant team. Pick wisely and create your own style of play.

Build, Upgrade, Repair

Upgrade your cooking stations to slice, fry and clean faster, repair broken chairs and shaky ladders, and patch up anything that decides to fall apart mid-service. Every improvement boosts your workflow... until chaos strikes again.

Unplanned Kitchen Disasters

Expect the unexpected. Levels are filled with strange surprises that shake up the kitchen, force you to improvise and push your teamwork to the limit. No two shifts ever feel the same.

A World Full of Flavors

Cook your way through varied locations, each with its own vibe, challenges and menu to master. Meet funny characters, discover hidden easter eggs and enjoy a light story as you progress through the world.

Local Splitscreen Chaos

Think your PC is strong? Prove it.

Our splitscreen system doesn't fake it, it spawns multiple full game instances, splits the screen, and assigns a controller to each one. Add players until your CPU sweats, your GPU screams, or your cooling setup earns its paycheck.

Each splitscreen player runs a real, independent game, meaning everyone can play online, invite their own friends, trigger different events, or even take over a separate display. We've pushed it to 12 players on a single machine. Anything beyond that is between you and your hardware.

AI disclaimer:

We understand that AI can be a sensitive topic in the gaming community. For us, AI is simply a tool that helps speed up parts of development: the vision, design, and final decisions are always human-made. Our goal remains the same: to create games crafted with care that players can enjoy.

AI Generated Content Disclosure

The developers describe how their game uses AI Generated Content like this:

We're just a small team who loves making games and we love using AI to make them even better.
We know there’s been a lot of negativity around AI in games lately, and honestly, we get it. But for us, AI isn’t some big scary thing, it’s a tool we use every day with excitement and care. It helps us bring our world to life, and gives players new ways to express their own creativity.
In our game, AI is used to make things feel more alive. It helps players voice their characters, translate their stories for others to enjoy around the world, and build cool things they might not have been able to otherwise. We're not using AI to replace artists or writers, we're using it to give more people the power to create.
We believe in giving players tools, not walls. AI is one of those tools, and we're constantly working to use it in thoughtful, respectful ways that fit our vision and our values.
So if you're on the fence about AI in games, we just ask: give it a chance. We’re doing our best to make something special here. This game is built with love, and we hope that shows in every part of it, even the parts powered by AI.
