What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“I am a solo developer making a roguelike with a lot of moving parts. spellloom is built around crafting spells and finding crazy synergies, and because there are so many possible combinations, I really need player feedback. Getting the game into players' hands early helps me balance the mechanics, catch edge-case bugs, and figure out which spell builds are the most fun to play. Early Access lets me work directly with the community to shape the game into the best version it can be.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“I expect spellloom to be in Early Access for roughly 6 to 12 months. This timeline gives me enough breathing room to add new content and tweak the balance based on player feedback without rushing the final 1.0 release.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“I plan to expand the game's content significantly by the full release. My goal is to add a wider variety of enemies and bosses, and a lot more components for the spellbuilding system. I also plan to add more achievements, polish the overall UI, and incorporate the quality of life features that the community asks for along the way.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The core gameplay loop of spellloom is fully implemented and completely playable. You can jump straight into runs, build and upgrade your spells, and fight through several floors with their own enemy types and bosses. While it offers a solid and highly replayable experience right now, there might still be some balance issues to tweak or minor bugs to squash.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Yes, I plan to slightly increase the price when spellloom leaves Early Access and launches into 1.0. This is to reflect the additional content, polish, and features added over the course of development.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Player feedback is the main reason I am doing Early Access in the first place. I will be actively reading the Steam community forums and engaging with players on the game's official Discord server. I want to hear your thoughts on spell balance, enemy difficulty, and what kind of new mechanics you want to see. Your input will directly influence the patches and content updates I work on.”

About This Game

Congratulations, you’ve landed a job as a 'Dungeon QA tester'. Your employer - a cat with a questionable sense of humor, who’s turned chaos into a business model. Here, spells are your lifeline and arcane missiles come in unrelenting waves. As a Spellweaver, you’ll craft custom spells, dodge bullet-hell nightmares, and try not to give the Dungeon Architect any reason to doubt your credentials. Wishlist spellloom now to stay updated on the latest developments!

Let's see what your new employer has to say.

Combat

So, Combat. Hope you enjoy weaving through a storm of magical projectiles - because that's basically your life now. Concentrated action. Every encounter is a chaotic ballet of fireballs, lasers, and creatures with entirely too many teeth. You'll dodge, you'll shoot, and maybe you'll even survive. Try to look confident out there; I find panic so boring.

Crafting & Spellweaving

You want to play with magic? Fine. I've given you the Spellbinder – a fancy grimoire that lets you stitch spells together however you like. Slot in shiny spell components (Essences, Aspects... big words, I know) to customize your two spells on the fly. Think chain lightning, AoE bursts, bouncing shots, or protective shields - whatever magical concoctions you piece together. Go on, impress me with your little experiments (and try not to set yourself on fire in the process).

Exploration

My dungeon is ever-changing (I'm indecisive, so what?). No two runs are the same, so don't bother memorizing layouts. You’ll wander through shadowy halls, enchanted rooms, and whatever other corridors I dream up to keep things interesting. Some of them might even help you out - find a secret or a shop and consider it a courtesy before the next onslaught. It's challenging, but I'm not trying to crush your spirit in one go; if you die too fast, I'd have to find a new tester.

Well, that's the tour. Off you go, Spellweaver - the dungeon won't test itself. I suppose I could wish you luck, but honestly... it makes no difference to me.
