What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Starting out as a small game demo made by one developer, Survivesmith grew to become a much bigger game than we intended to, taking more and more time to create all the systems, and re-iterate, over and over.
We decided to launch the game a bit early as an Early Access title because of time constraints, and also the need for more player engagement with the development. We want to make a game made for players to enjoy, and continue onward with their feedback in shaping the future of the game.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“Since almost all the systems in the game are already implemented and ready, and only lacks a few more components and content, the game will likely take 6-8 months before leaving Early Access.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The final release of the game is intended to have, but not limited to:
  • 3 regions with 3 explorable biomes in each region
  • A character upgrade tree
  • More dynamic uses for resources, such as shaping sub-weapons, crafting temporary items, etc.
  • More refined and fun biome exploration aspects, such as random encounters, events, better biome generation and layout, etc.
  • A lot more equipment types, blooms, weapon mods, survival kit items, buddies, character skills, etc.
  • A gear fusion system where to different gears can be fused together as a more powerful alternate evolution (a feature which was planned from day 1 but never got to explore)
  • Elemental reactions
  • Better build relations (more interaction between different types of equipment to create more meaningful builds)
  • 2 more playable characters, most likely as support characters rather than full on buildable-characters
  • Additional game modes
  • Unlock decorations for Mike's base
...and more”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The game is already in a fully playable state with decent amount of polish and a decent amount of replayability. Almost all the planned systems are in place, and the general structure and gameplay loop won't change much from here, unless it becomes a strict requirement according to player feedback.
Right now, the game features (but not limited to) the following:
  • 2 fully crafted regions with 6 explorable biomes, 20+ resources to gather, 15+ unique, handcrafted creatures to encounter, with special POIs, hazards and treasures to discover.
  • 12+ blooms (random unique upgrades to be found during an expedition).
  • Fully upgradeable gear (sub-weapons and armor modules) with additional enhancements and evolutions.
  • 3 mini-boss encounters and 1 final boss encounter (titan).
  • 1 playable character with 3 different upgradeable primary weapons.
  • 7 different survival kit items.
  • 4 fully upgradeable buddies, with talent trees.
  • Fully functioning base with 8 different terminals.
  • An upgradeable research tree with a few levels and many unlocks.
  • Resources to analyze and weapon mod recipes to discover and craft.
  • Unlockable and repairable hazard protection equipment.
...and more”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Most probably, yes.
The game is currently priced lower based on its current value to the player. A full release will be a lot more polished, with a lot more features, and will also be priced accordingly. Early Access players will be able to input their feedback into the game's identity and enjoy more value over the course of the game's development lifetime with constant and consistent updates and additions.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Survivesmith is a very diverse game, with a lot of different directions and systems the game can branch out on. We hope to shape all of these different systems with player input, their creative ideas, and possibly a largely player-driven item pool for the game. We will still filter out any excessive feature requests or game-breaking ideas to keep the authenticity and the personality of the game as we wanted, but no feedback from our players will be left untouched.”

About This Game

Survivesmith is a reverse-bullet hell / bullet heaven game where you craft and forge your way to your final goal - getting the "Life Plant". With multiple crafting/forging/upgrading/skill systems, you create your own survival strategies to survive the hordes (and the biomes).

Biomes

During your expeditions (runs), you will come across many different biomes. All these biomes have their own unique theme, look, and feel to them so you'll know immediately when you find a new one.

However, it's not all just looks. You will find many different resources to collect, creatures to fight (or stay away), and points of interests during your travel.

Hazards

Each biome also poses their own hazards, making traversal difficult and dangerous. You will have to face rains, lightning strikes, sandstorms, lack of illumination, corrupted gases and more. Craft and use different hazard protection equipment (Haz-Pros) and keep them repaired to turn the tides around.

Resource Gathering

In each biome, there are many resources to find, all unique to each biome. Some are obtained from the ground, some by harvesting mineral nodes, scrap piles or trees, and some by defeating different biome creatures. Collect all you can, because you'll never know when you're gonna need them!

Weapon Mods

The protagonist mainly uses a gun as his primary weapon. While they're quite boring as they are, there are plenty of weapon mods for you to discover, combine and try on your guns to make them act in silly ways.

There are 4 different mod categories which you can slot or change at any given time during a run. Not all combinations will work, but when one does, it does WORK WELL!

Buddies

Bring a helpful companion with you on your expeditions that can do various tasks from gathering resources, fighting enemies, or healing you. Unlock new growth upgrades when you play more with them, and upgrade them in multiple different ways.

Loadouts

Mike (the protagonist) being the engineer he is, doesn't start his expeditions without proper preparation. While the game still features many random elements in a run to keep the roguelite feel, you get to pick a lot of stuff beforehand.

Pick your weapons, buddies, survival kit items, tools, skills and haz-pros before ever setting foot into the unknown to craft your own journey before it even begins!

Mike's Base

All your time is not just spent on exploring the world outside. Before and after your expeditions, take a breather, and take a look around your base. There are many terminals and permanent upgrades/unlocks that you can find in the base. Use the resources you collect in expeditions to complete your research on the "Life Plant" in the Bio Lab, use energy crystals on the Power Generator to keep your base running, convert raw resources to refined ones in the Refabricator, and much much more!

Don't forget to annoy your little cleaner bot, Roobie while you're there ;)

Survive, adapt, and unleash absolute firepower in Survivesmith. Discover hidden weapon secrets, master your loadout, and forge your own path to the ultimate prize—the "Life Plant".

Do you have what it takes to outlast the human-made machine hordes and the unforgiving nature to save humanity?
