What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“I want to make a version of Chess that is easier for new players to learn, and easier for experienced players to strategize. The best-case scenario is this game becomes the primary way for people to play regular Chess. So far, the game has already surpassed the functionality of a physical chess board, but doesn't have online capabilities yet. Even without online multiplayer, I believe it has value that other chess games don't have.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“I would give it 6-30 months. Networking is not really my thing.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“I want to at least add multiplayer over LAN and support for Mac/Linux devices. After that, I might try to add multiplayer over WAN and support for mobile devices.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Currently, the game functions fully for same-screen multiplayer and playing against a simple bot.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“I'll probably triple the price if I manage to get WAN multiplayer working and there is enough demand for it.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“There is a link to a GitHub repository where anyone can request changes or bug fixes.”

About This Game

Are you a new player that doesn't know how each piece moves? Have you ever made a move, not realizing you have left an important piece wide open for attack? Have you ever missed opportunities to checkmate your opponent? With this version of Chess, you can easily survey every move possible and what effects it will have. The game will not provide strategy recommendations, but will give you the ability to survey and judge every possible move for yourself.

To report bugs or request changes, go to the ChessVisualized-Info repository on GitHub.

Known bugs:

  • Checkmate moves have a small chance of appearing as stalemate moves. Making these moves will not trigger the victory message.

  • Check moves have a small chance of appearing as normal moves.
