What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“We want to make sure Shwip is the best it can be before launch. We decided to focus on quality over quantity when it comes to game modes. Early testing at conferences gave us a huge amount of feedback which we implemented, and we need that final bit of feedback for the overall game mode, and specifically - our style mode. Performance is another large aspect of Shwip, being a twin stick shooter. We need to have 60fps , and while we've made huge strides in performance, we can use the data from early access to better optimize the game.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“A generous amount of time in early access for us would be less than two months.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“We have a few game modes that we are experimenting with and would like to slowly roll them out and see if they have any staying power. One of our goals with Shwip is to being local couch gaming back, and we want to make our multiplayer modes differ than single player. In addition to multiplayer, our three modes need small tweaks from the community on how to keep players coming back. We want our players to love each mode individually, and not just spend their time mastering one.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Shwip is 100% playable, we are focusing on polishing our game modes and testing out local-multiplayer replay-ability. The content of the game is 90% there, with sound effects, music and overall polish being the next stage.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We plan to raise the price slightly after leaving early access.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Any feedback is welcome! We listen to every bit and make adjustments. Our community page will have FAQs and discussions.”

HammerLog 07 - The Road to Style

Work on style mode is coming along nicely! Our original vision for the mode didn’t translate well towards players initially so we decided to scrap it and start from scratch.

The original vision of Style was an upgradable version of Arcade. You had the same slew of enemies, but they were harder to kill. By using combos and “style” points, you could upgrade your ships abilities to better dispatch enemies. Unfortunately, this concept didn’t translate well to players on show floors and in the beta. Ultimately, the mode is called Style, and we want players to do exactly that – play with style. But how?

Growing up, our favourites were the likes of Project Gotham Racing and Tony Hawks Pro Skater 2. Those games had players string together massive combos for both the ultimate feels, and a massive combo bonus. We are building the new Style mode based on those factors. Gone is the upgrade path, along with the harder to kill enemies. Replacing that is a combo system and the ability to fill up a TUR-BOM-ETER bar, which will allow players to unleash up to three very nice powerups of their choosing.

Stay with us as we develop the mode and begin showcasing it to the world.

Upcoming changes to Shwip in v1.1.3
EGLX, Forest City Comicon, CNE Gaming garage all gave us incredible insight into how players react to the game. So instead of having players organically learn the small nuances of each mode, we created an intro screen. Here’s a look at the three modes so far. Style is still a work in progress.

We don’t want to hold your hand, because the intricacies of Shwips control scheme is better experienced organically and naturally, but we figure you need a BIT of an intro before the pixels start flying.

Thanks again for your support in our development of Shwip. Until next time.

About This Game

Shwip is straight up twin stick action with a whip. It's you versus an ever increasing onslaught of geometric foes. Literally render them into pixels with devastating weapons and abilities including missiles, mines, magnets and dash. Evade, outlast and play with style in Shwip's three main game modes, then take to the couch and play against your friends in Shwipball – a competitive battle arena inspired by air hockey. Post high-scores that dominate global leaderboards so you can show your friends and strangers alike who’s boss. Are your thumbs ready?

We insist Shwip be played as you wish. So we've given a few cool modes to ensure maximum levels of fun and excitement for everyone.

Going out in 15 minutes and need a quick particle induced fix? Buckle up, buddy. This is three minutes of increasingly difficult enemies spawns and swarms with one objective; to turn you into dust. Arcade features all the weapon types but no ship improvements, so you better be ready. This is the arcade mode you grew up with and love, so post those high scores and show the world you are the Shwip master.

Currently a work in progress and will launch with Shwip coming out of Early Access. Our original vision for this mode didn't translate well, so we are taking on a new approach.

You’re placed in an desolate environment with a wounded ship, a damaged weapons system and a serious case of home-sickness. There are mines scattered everywhere, and a series of energy fields you need to fly through in order to maintain your ship's integrity. Sound hard? Well then, we're keeping the best part a secret.

Choose the enemy type and frequency and unleash your might. Great for learning how to gain style points or just to mess around and show off new skills to your friends and family. There are no time limits, so customize your gameplay experience and get your particle fix for the day.

These enemies will have you fiddling with your controllers in ways you never thought possible. Take solace in the beauty of their particle ridden demise. Shwip features a range of enemies from floaty pawns to pack hunting, pixel-thirsty units.

From industry standard cannons to the Shwip. We give you an awesome array of cool weapons and abilities to use and abuse. Pro-tip : Each weapon has an alternate use. From a whip, to missiles, to mines, to boosting, to blasting to magnets. Destroy your enemies as you please!

Online Leaderboards & Stats

Compete against the world and track global stats on our website and in-game.

Trash-talk and taunt your friends and family in real time without delay with Shwip's local multiplayer. We grew up playing Mario Kart, Worms and Halo in cramped rooms with tiny CRTs, and we want to bring back that magical feeling. Three single player modes and two competitive versus modes await you and your squad.

Honestly? We recommend Shwip be played with a gamepad. Keyboard and mouse does indeed work, but it's not how we suggest you play the game.
