What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“During the development of Speed Rivals we realized that the track editor is a core feature of the game. We want to launch it in Early Access for two main reasons:

Gather early feedback from the community to refine and improve the editor before the final release.

Encourage user-generated content, allowing early players to design and publish their own tracks on the Workshop. This way, by the time the full release arrives, there will already be a wide variety of community-created circuits available.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“The length of the Early Access period will largely depend on community feedback, as it may lead us to make deeper adjustments to the game. However, our current estimate is that within 3 to 6 months after the Early Access launch, all planned features will be developed and polished for the full release.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“We plan for the full version of Speed Rivals to feature additional modes, tools, and expanded content compared to the Early Access release:

Garage Mode: we intend to let players customize their cars both visually (paint, decals, and accessories) and in terms of performance, upgrading elements such as wheels, engine, axle system, grip (magnet), and other aspects that influence gameplay.

Multiplayer: we’re planning to add a multiplayer mode with local split-screen for up to 4 players, along with Steam Remote Play support.

Expanded Track Editor: our goal is to evolve the current editor into a more advanced version, adding new tools, decorative objects, and environment customization options to create more detailed and unique tracks.

Community-driven improvements: we plan to integrate community feedback gathered during Early Access, refining the user interface, balancing gameplay, and polishing the overall experience based on player input.

More Content: we aim to broaden the variety of cars (targeting around 100) and themed circuits, as well as introduce tournaments and events to enhance the competitive experience.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The Early Access version of Speed Rivals already features a solid foundation of content and key functionalities:

Quick Race: choose your car, track, and race settings to start competing right away.

Tournament Mode: instead of a single track, players compete across a selection of circuits grouped into different categories.

Track Editor: a fully free-form creator that allows you to design any kind of circuit, with elevations, banking, angles, loopings, ramps, and more. Created tracks can be saved for racing and time trials, or enjoyed in Zen Mode, where cars cannot leave the rails and the focus is on speed and drifting. Tracks can also be uploaded to the Steam Workshop, and players can download community creations.

Leaderboards: ranking tables for every track in Quick Race mode, plus a global leaderboard. Special rankings will also be available during events and tournaments, where players will compete for the best times across a curated set of tracks with prizes for the top performers.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Yes. During Early Access the game will be offered at a reduced price compared to the full release. Once the final version launches, the price will increase to reflect the additional content and features. If the community response is strong and we continue to expand the game with even more content, the price may increase further. Players who join during Early Access will benefit from getting all of this at a lower cost.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“The track editor is the core focus of the community and the main reason we are launching Speed Rivals in Early Access. Our goal is to actively support the growth of the Steam Workshop and ensure a high quality of user-created content.
We will also encourage community involvement through the Steam Hub, discussion threads, and all our social media channels, where we will share updates, gather feedback, and highlight the best player creations.”
