About This Game

Timeater is a 2D pixel art scrolling game with roguelike elements and a narrative focused on bending the time of the game to our will with a bilinear progression that will be spiced up with some gameplay/narrative secrets inherent in time itself.

It will focus on the theme of time and its indifferent flow, seen as a passive and omniscient deity, opposed to the nature of chaotic and passionate human change.

Timeater is set in a world where time itself can be manipulated and controlled, playing a central role in both the plot and the game mechanics. The protagonist is a character who begins his adventure in the Central Palace, a neutral place that serves as the main hub and starting point for his missions.

The world is divided into two large thematic paths: Tyranny and Democracy, each representing not only different political ideologies, but also distinct play styles. In the Tyranny path, the player faces oppressive environments filled with arena combat and enemies, where traps are common. Corruption and oppression are recurring themes here, and the player can primarily purchase offensive items to survive and advance.

On the other hand, the Democracy branch is filled with puzzles and intellectual challenges, reflecting themes of freedom and ingenuity, but also bureaucracy and law. This part of the game requires the player to master not only the rapid-fire boss fights, but also the intricate laws and regulations that govern this society. Defensive elements are more common in these areas, supporting a more strategic and measured approach to the game.

The core of the plot revolves around the mission to "punish one of the seven evils of the alchemical elements" and return the "soul stone" to the Central Palace. Each stone retrieved and each evil punished has a direct effect on the temporal advancement in the game world. The player must use special abilities to manipulate time, allowing them to skip combat, areas, or dialogue to set up the course of events in a favorable way.

Failing too many times or dying often speeds up time towards a possible "Bad Ending." However, strategic use of consumables can slow down or reverse some of these negative effects.

The game features multiple endings that explore the various "What Ifs" of the story, depending on the choices the player makes and the specific villains who have been punished. These endings offer a reflection on how different actions and choices can alter the course of time and history in significant ways.
