About This Game

“All the children who spent their childhood in war grew up way too fast.”

  • offers over 20 interactive vignettes with diverse gameplay. Battle imaginary monsters, overcome fears, face ordinary hardships in a shelter or hang out with friends in the rubble

  • shows memories as boxes that players can unpack and sort to discover the complete story

  • features a rarely portrayed children’s perspective on wars in Ukraine, Bosnia and Syria, inspired by memories of real people

  • draws from a long-term historical research by the War Childhood Museum, highlighting children’s resilience and creativity

Witness Mak growing up under a siege that lasts for years. Follow Melisa as she leaves her home behind again and again. Join Anna and Valerie as they and their family desperately try to break free from war’s prison. How do these kids cope with the scars war has left them with? Unravel their interconnected fates and explore how past and present conflicts have shaped their lives forever.

Once you’re grown up, how do you make sense of what you lived through as a kid? Each vignette shows their rich inner world, where the terrors of war might be transformed into fantastical monsters.

The story of each character is fragmented into individual memories. Piece together each memory from its fragments. Experience it all through the child’s eyes, and place them on the timeline of the complex narrative. You’ll need to carefully look for clues to determine the correct order. Where do the stories of the children intersect and where do they diverge?

The game was created in close cooperation with the War Childhood Museum in Sarajevo and is inspired by the memories of real people who survived wars over the past three decades.
