Coming Soon To Early Access

The developers of this game intend to release as a work in progress, developing with the feedback of players.

What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“With an open-world game of this scale and complexity, we have two concerns:

  • Stability especially with respect to platforming & object interaction edge cases.
  • Filling the world with meaningful content beyond the core sequence of meaty, dense areas with lots of hard-designed interactions (dungeons etc).

To deliver the comprehensive experience we want, we need feedback beyond what we can feasibly acquire alone. Thus, We need your help finding the aforementioned bits of unexpected behavior and sources of instability, as well as pointing us in the right direction for new areas relative to what's working (design-wise) and what's not.

Joining us in early access means getting to play the majority of the game's core early, but also following along and giving feedback as we gradually flesh out the world further.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We expect to be in early access for 6-8 months.

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“We plan to launch early access with the majority of the highly dense & focused zones (dungeons) but in order to reach our target it's likely the last couple endgame areas will be unfinished and inaccessible.

Besides this, content that will get filled out in early access will most likely be categorized under:
  • side quests / specific character quests
  • minute timeline-specific interactions, such as new events that happen on specific days
  • localized gameplay content i.e. minigames & mini-dungeons with isolated rewards

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Presently, the intro and starting village are filled out and mostly representative of the form they'll take in release.
Additionally, the first two dungeons are completeable.
Beyond this, most of the overworld is exploreable, but very light on actual content.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“No.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“While core aspects of the game are driven heavily by a focused, top-down vision, much of the content micro is open to user input, and we welcome feedback with respect to what areas and content to iterate further and how to balance. This might include things like player mobility & combat, game pace, and world/routing design on the small scale (such as shortcuts).

We expect to communicate early access progress and intentions regularly on forums, and respond to questions, reported design problems, and broad design discussions the community is having there.”

About This Game

Nothing At Stake is an open world action-adventure styled in the vein of classic n64 games, specifically taking inspiration from the first 3d Legend of Zelda games.

Within is an oblique dark fantasy world packed full of dungeons, ruins of a recently dead civilization, and colorful characters doing their best to survive in a seemingly hopeless world.

Help them make something of the scattered chaos that remains or set down your own path accumulating power as you scope out a land you'd been long isolated from.

Story

OVER A DECADE AGO, THE DOMINANT CIVILIZATION FELL.

STRUCK BY AN OTHERWORLDLY FORCE, MANIFESTED IN THE FORM OF A 100 QUADRILLION TON CONGLOMERATION OF ROCK, METAL, AND OTHER INDETERMINATE SUBSTANCES.

A WORLD IN TATTERS, STREWN BY PILES OF RUIN AND UNDYING, UNMANAGED MACHINERY REMAINS.

FORMERLY SUBJUGATED PEOPLES SPREAD OUTWARD FROM THEIR FORMERLY PENNED-IN CORNERS, TRYING TO MAKE SENSE OF THE RUBBLE AND THEIR IMPENDING DOOM.

Mature Content Description

The developers describe the content like this:

Contains dark themes, psychological horror, fantasy violence, and some blood that may not be appropriate for younger audiences.
