What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“We're utilizing cutting-edge AI services for our NPC dialogues, which adds an exciting but unpredictable element to our game infrastructure. Early Access allows us to gather crucial data on player engagement and service usage, helping us optimize our systems and ensure a smooth, enjoyable experience for all players upon full release.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We anticipate an Early Access period of up to 6 months. This timeframe should provide sufficient data to fine-tune our pricing model and infrastructure, ensuring the best possible experience for our players.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“We are planning to continuously refine gameplay systems based on player feedback. To balance the ongoing costs of our AI services, we might experiment with daily or weekly limits.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Our Early Access version is feature-complete and polished. Players can enjoy the full murder mystery experience with AI-driven NPCs, procedurally generated cases, and all planned gameplay elements.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Depending on the usage data we collect during Early Access, pricing may be adjusted. Our goal is to find the sweet spot that keeps the game accessible while covering our operational costs. We'll keep the community informed of any changes.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Community feedback is invaluable to us. We're keen to hear players' thoughts on NPC behavior, gameplay mechanics, and overall experience. This input will directly influence our refinements and help shape the final version of the game. We'll actively engage with our players through Steam forums, Discord, social media and email.”

About This Game

A murder has been committed, and everyone in the room has something to hide.

Murder Mystery Mayhem is a single-player detective game set in a stylish 1920s world of secrets, suspicion, and social intrigue. Talk freely to a colorful cast of cunning suspects, gather clues, uncover motives, and deduce who among them is the killer.

Key Features

  • Interrogate suspects freely by text or voice

  • Hear guests answer back with spoken dialogue (weekly limits apply)

  • Approach conversations in your own style

  • Shift guest moods through the way you speak to them

  • Unlock hidden clues and secret knowledge

  • Question a large cast of suspects, each with distinct personalities, quirks, and secrets

  • Investigate motives, contradictions, and clues at the scene of the crime

  • Deduce the killer through conversation and evidence

Interrogate Freely

Talk to suspects naturally by typing or using your microphone, and hear them speak for a more immersive back-and-forth. You are free to approach each conversation however you like: calm and methodical, warm and reassuring, confrontational, manipulative, playful, or relentless. Play good cop, bad cop, or invent your own style. Ask about the case, revisit earlier statements, push on weak points, or wander into unexpected topics like you would in a real conversation. The way you handle people is part of the investigation.

Read the Room

Guests react to your approach, and the tone of an interrogation can shift as the conversation unfolds. A suspect who seemed at ease may grow guarded, irritated, or unsettled, while someone under pressure might suddenly let slip something they never meant to share. Getting useful information is not just about asking the right question, but about sensing how each person responds and knowing when to press, when to reassure, and when to change tactics.

Follow the Clues and Deduce the Killer

Every conversation can lead to new information, hidden knowledge, and cryptic clues that help you piece the case together. Question a large colorful cast of suspects, each with their own personality, quirks, and secrets — from aristocrats and butlers to maids, inventors, officers, and other suspicious guests. Search for the truth across three whimsical pixel art locations: the mansion's Grand Hall, its shadowy Library, and the estate Gardens. Investigate the murder, uncover motives and suspicious behavior, and connect the evidence into a coherent theory of what happened.

On higher difficulties, the case grows even more dangerous. Some guests become openly uncooperative and will not give anything away unless you first pressure them with something incriminating. More guests will also lie to you, making it harder to separate false leads from the real trail. Step into the mansion, test your instincts, and see whether you can crack the case when everyone starts fighting back.

Important Information

  • Internet connection required during play

  • Guests can reply with spoken dialogue via text-to-speech (weekly limits apply)

  • Voice and conversation systems rely on external online services

AI Generated Content Disclosure

The developers describe how their game uses AI Generated Content like this:

When players interact with characters in the game, their conversations are processed through an AI system that generates responses in real-time.

While the majority of the game's visual elements, including all character designs, are created by human artists, some in-game images are generated using AI. These may be swapped for human created art in the future.

Mature Content Description

The developers describe the content like this:

Murder Mystery Mayhem contains themes and content suitable for mature audiences. As a detective game set in the 1920s, it revolves around murder investigations and discussions of various criminal activities. The game includes cartoonish depictions of dead bodies and blood, which are shown in the intro and outro scenes. These scenes can be skipped for those who prefer not to view them. Given the historical setting, the game also features period-appropriate depictions of alcohol and tobacco use.
Throughout the gameplay, players will encounter mature themes including murder, deception, and other criminal activities. While the art style is retro and cartoonish, the subject matter is intended for mature players. It's important to note that there are no explicit depictions of sexual content, sexual assault, drug abuse, or self-harm in the game.
