What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“As a generative RPG, Bane is very well suited to an early access period. We plan to build much content and an interaction-rich environment for you and your friends to explore. Based on our very positive experience with Early Access released for our previous two generative games, we have come to conclude that involving a community of players as early as possible is the best way to realize this.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We expect the game to be in early access for about a year. Throughout the early access period the game will always offer a complete play-experience, but the depth and variation will grow considerably over time. Stepping in early supports the development of this game and offers you a chance to become involved with its direction. Our state-of-the-art content generation techniques will ensure that you will get many, many hours of gameplay, whether you step in early, late, or return only once in a while.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“During early access we plan to expand the current roster of adventure locations, adversaries, and hazards. In addition, at this early stage character progression between adventures has been kept really simple. Based on the number of players, and their preferences, we hope to expand on that considerably. We envision single-player campaign modes, or old-school, multiplayer hex crawls as possible, alternative frames for the adventure-crawling core.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Right now you can fully enjoy the core adventuring experience of Bane. You are able to go on stand-alone quests with a party of your characters in single-player mode. Or join friends online in the multi-player mode. During these quests you collect loot and treasure, which will allow you to progress your characters between adventures. Check out the 'About this Game' section to find out more details about the game's current state.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“At the moment, we do not intend change the price when we leave early access.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We invite all players to join our Discord community. You can find the link with the game description below. On Discord you can offer feedback, make suggestions, report bugs, and discuss the future of the game with us, the developers. From time to time we will organize community events such as scavenger hunts with rewards and outcomes that shape the lore of the game as it evolves. ”

About This Game

Bane is a turn-based, procedurally generated, sandbox RPG in which you control a group of heroes or join a party of friends online. Adventures are brief and dangerous; to survive you will have to be careful and clever.

If you are familiar with table-top role-playing games, you will have little trouble picking up the simple dice-based skill checks that determine success or failure. Exploration and improvisation are at the heart of the game. A quick and easy-to-use text interface enables you to interact with your surroundings in many novel and surprising ways.

Characters in Bane have no hit-points. Damage is reflected through status effects. This means that combat is quick and tactical. It revolves around positioning, cooperation, and exploiting the weakness of your enemies.

Natural hazards and all manner of devious traps are at least as dangerous as any shambling enemy you might encounter. And probably more frequent! So pick your way forward with care, avoid the traps, but don't dally too much! Complete your quest before your presence triggers the Bane and destroys the site forever.

Between adventures you get to spend your hard-won treasure and experience to improve and expand your roster. This way your characters will grow stronger. Collect clues that can lead you to even more dangerous and rewarding missions. But be careful! Bane is a game with permadeath! If a character dies, they will be gone forever.
