Coming Soon To Early Access

The developers of this game intend to release as a work in progress, developing with the feedback of players.

Note: Games in Early Access are not complete and may or may not change further. If you are not excited to play this game in its current state, then you should wait to see if the game progresses further in development. Learn more

What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“The game is mostly complete, but needs some more features, content and game balancing before release. We aim to balance based on community feedback.

Early Access is not a way for us to fund development of the game - this is a self-funded project and we already have the funds required to complete development. Adding planned features (such as outsourcing the creation of additional audio assets) does not rely on revenue generated by Early Access sales.

Also.. this is our first Steam game. We want to figure out how best to present it in the Steam store before final release.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“The plan is to release in Q2 2026 after a few months of additional development in Early Access.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“We plan to work on:
  • Adding more advanced GPU features, including:
    • SIMD instructions.
    • Texture fetching.
  • Adding more "levels" of puzzles (we have five planned) including:
    • Animated puzzles.
    • Puzzles using the upcoming advanced GPU features.
  • Adding more achievements.
  • Adding secrets and easter eggs.
  • Finishing the in-game narrative.
  • Finishing the instructions and manual.
  • Improving audio, adding music and more sound effects.
  • Polishing, tweaking, and sanding down the rough edges.

It is possible that new releases of the game may break compatibility with save files from older versions of the game. We will try our hardest not to let this happen, and we have code measures in place to make updates to the save file as seamless as possible.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The game is currently fully playable but limited to only two "levels" with a total of 14 puzzles.

This means that you can already:
  • Solve graphical puzzles by writing code.
  • Aim for 100% completion by solving optional puzzle goals.
  • Progress through the game's structure of adding more programming features as you complete levels.
  • Follow the early stages of the in-game narrative.

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We plan to gradually raise the price as we ship new content and features.

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We're excited to see how the community finds the difficulty and balance of the game. Is it too hard? Is it too easy?

In our closed Beta we saw community members create new puzzles and beat the solutions for our existing puzzles. We took their awesome puzzles and solutions and added them to the game.

We will primarily be gathering feedback through the Steam community forums.”

About This Game

It's 1983 and the latest hardware to hit the streets is programmable shaders. Here at Novum Technical Solutions, our goal is to revolutionize your development pipeline with our state of the art graphical workstations. Using our newest equipment, you'll be able to outperform and outsmart your competitors. It will be years before they catch up!

As a new hire here at NTS, your job is to prove that shaders are the future by successfully solving graphical programming challenges. Using our bespoke shader language, you will be developing on the next generation of graphics hardware. Want to know what the future of graphics taste like? Go ahead and sign the NDA and let's get you started...

Learn the language, solve graphical coding puzzles to complete tasks, install updates, win promotion and gain access to even more powerful hardware.

Sounds Tough - Is This For Me?

Lo-Res Shaders: The Game is a game about computer programming. You will need to write code that solves puzzles. The solutions are generally not about complicated computer science algorithms, but more along the lines of logic and maths puzzles.

The programming language you'll use to solve these puzzles is not a real language - it has been invented purely for the purposes of the game. It's not a complicated language with a lots of keywords, built-in library functions or hard to learn control structures - think "simplified assembly language" and you're on the right track.

Some basic experience and a strong interest in programming is recommended.
