Why Early Access?

“Mutation has structured and functioning game cycles, however, it does not yet have all the content that I set out for it because of the amount of work the title requires to be fully developed. Being produced by one developer in one year, it needs a few more months of work to finalize it.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“Mutation in early access has:

Player levels: the player can accumulate experience from level 1 up to level 9 with associated level rewards including new manufacturable items, skill points and new pitfalls.

3 Monster Mutation Sets: As many as 3 mutation sets for 5 body parts with a total of 36 possible combinations, each game the horror that stalks the player is different both aesthetically and in terms of game mechanics, causing different altered states, altering one's stats, spawning horrific offspring and more.

5 Unique Creatures: From stationary, lurking enemies like the Grabber and the S'hrul Blossom to the dynamic Thessiflagelli that performs 360-degree movements on every surface, the player must not only think about finding an escape route and not being found by the horror shifter, but also deal with the other aberrations that will bar their way.

Dynamic events: burning rooms, frozen rooms, rooms covered with toxic mushrooms, and dynamic traps for each level of the game, after each corridor a different pitfall.

3 Different Levels: The levels available in early access are the laboratory with its tremendous experimentation and corrosive hazards, the detention with its cells filled with rusty, broken bars that can cause bleeding, and the sewers that feature unhealthy, muddy sewage that slows the player down and partially obstructs the view.

Crafting: 21 materials to build multiple useful items to overcome the pitfalls that lie before the player's path.

Skill Tree: as many as 18 different skills that can be upgraded numerous times for a total of 54 expendable points.

Survival: Heartbeats , temperature, hunger, thirst, mental health: running too much will increase the player's heartbeats by attracting the horror shifter, if the temperature in a room rises or falls too much the player will suffer the consequences, the same goes for nutrient deficiency and stress levels.

Puzzles: Each level requires a puzzle item in order to move on, and that puzzle item is determined by which random level is chosen: the player can be on the lab level and find the exit to the Detention or the Sewers, the same goes for all other levels.

Distractions, Impediments, and Special Objects: The horror can blow out the power making the level completely dark but at the same time the player can use various distractions to confuse the monster's senses such as activating the fire alarm, sound alarm, or purge to slow down the creature's movements, Some mutations however make it immune to such countermeasures.

Story Notes: The player can find occasional notes scattered around the map that help him understand the events that led to the horrific tragedy he is experiencing.

What to expect from the full version of Mutation?


Mutation will feature numerous additions and improvements upon release in early access, some of which are:

Player levels: Implementation of levels 10 to 20.

Monster mutation sets: 3 more monster mutation sets for a total of 6 sets and 144 possible combinations.

Other Creatures: Many more creatures will be implemented for player levels 10-20 in order to add an additional level of challenge to the game.

Dynamic Events: There will be multiple dynamic events so as to further layer the number of environmental pitfalls the player will face.

Game Levels: Numerous levels will be implemented with choice and crossroads options to unlock different endings.

Crafting: Numerous craftable items including follower turrets, totems and more will be implemented so as to counter the pitfalls of the new levels and enemies.

Puzzles: New Puzzles and manufacturable puzzle objects will be implemented so that the new game levels can be achieved.

Distractions, Impediments and Special Objects: A wide range of gadgets that will assist the player during his or her escape, additional distractions and impediments will further layer the gameplay generating new gameplay strategies.

Story Notes and Cinematics: After the player has collected a certain number of notes, secret cinematics will be unlocked that will provide a better understanding of the origin of the evil surrounding the player.”

“The current state of the game is perfectly playable and presents several potential hours of fun and fear, being in early access and with a small pool of beta testers it is not without bugs that will be refined and eliminated during early access.”

Mutation is the work of a developer with limited personal budget and some occasional external collaborators, as much as I avoided using artificial intelligence as much as possible since I prefer organic work, it was necessary to speed up the production of the game in some aspects, being used for some assets of this game including icons, textures, few 3D models and later manually edited by me. None of the content within the game infringes on the intellectual property of third parties in any way, also because every single asset while occasionally having a generative basis, was meticulously edited by myself. Should Mutation reach its intended revenue goals I will be more than happy to replace various AI-generated elements with the work of professionals.
