Why Early Access?

“ROVA is a large game being created by a small team.
Development started in 2024, with our first prototype demo released in March 2024. Since then we have released multiple demo content updates throughout development, treating the demo like a free super early 'Early Access'.

Player feedback has, and continues to play a large role in ROVA's development.

Early Access is the best way we can make ROVA the best it can be, whilst keeping community feedback at the forefront of development.
It gets the game in your hands sooner, whilst giving you an optional voice on how it can improve and grow.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We don't know exactly how long ROVA will be in Early Access.
ROVA has evolved a lot during its development before entering Early Access, and we anticipate it will continue to grow and evolve.
Player feedback and demand for content will also play a large role in this.
New planets will increase development time by months, but we're happy to grow the game further if the demand is there.
We'd rather not charge for DLC, so Early Access is the best fit for this.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The final game will feature an additional planet over 2 times the size of the current one. This world will contain unique biomes, creatures and research tasks. Expect more narrative, places to explore and customisation options to unlock on the existing planet too.

If the demand for additional worlds is there, we would like to create them. This will extend our time in Early Access, but is purely based on feedback during Early Access. (We hope you like it!)

Examples of features we plan to include:
- Dynamic weather systems (linked to research)
- At least one additional planet (over 2x larger than the current)
- More detailed creature and character AI, with routines and behaviours you can study
- Crew transport quests (let them ride the rover like a motorbike)
- Much more ;)

We are also exploring options for Co-op / online play.
No promises on that, but it's been fun to test.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“ROVA currently features its first fully explorable planet, with multiple biomes and creatures.

Player movement and photography is implemented, alongside a bunch of research tasks. Every object you photo forms part of the 'research database', which is a research catalogue of absolutely everything on the planet.

We recently introduced colour customisation options for the player rover, and the research crew has a range of collectable customisation items also.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We may increase the price after Early Access is complete, but only if a significant amount of content is added beyond our plans.
We want to make the game as accessible as possible, and we are aware the price plays a large role in this too.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Player feedback has played a significant role throughout all of ROVA's development.
This will not change. We will continue to listen to all feedback and make ROVA the best, most accessible game it can be.
