About This Game

How it plays

Etheriia - Travelogue is a single-player adult visual novel. You read the story, advance the dialogue with a click or the keyboard, and decide what the Warrior does whenever a choice comes up. There is no combat, no timer and no reflex test: you play at your own pace.

The story
Aerith, the goddess of dimensions, stopped paying attention to her own job and the worlds started bleeding into each other: robots in elven lands, medieval warriors in futuristic cities, scenery that loses quality and characters that move in choppy frames. You are the Warrior, sent by her from dimension to dimension to fix the damage, in a comedy that pokes fun at how visual novels get made.

What you do in the game

  • Read and advance the story. Scenes with illustrated backgrounds, characters whose expressions change line by line, video animations and voiced dialogue.

  • Make choices. At set points in the story you pick between two paths. Each decision leads to a different scene and changes your Courage, Intelligence and Trust attributes.

  • Play minigames. Pick out the real Evelyn among the impostors, and collect crystals in the potion room.

  • Check the Map of Dimensions. It shows where you are, lets you go back to places you have already reached, and displays the dimensions that are still locked.

  • Follow your Adventurer Status. A screen with your attributes and the inventory of items picked up along the journey.

  • Review your decisions at the end. The final screen lists an achievement for every choice you made and your total score. Playing again with other choices shows other scenes and unlocks other achievements.

What is in the game today

  • Stage 1: the heist of the Holy Grail at the museum in Luna's dimension, through sewers, a garage and air ducts. Told in 12 scenes.

  • Stage 2: the Realm of the Witches, with Evelyn's cave and chambers, up to the entrance of Iris's Casino. Five decisions, each with two outcomes.

  • 12 Steam achievements tied to the story and to your choices.

Features

  • Save at any time, in as many save slots as you want, with Steam Cloud.

  • Auto-play, fast-forward and an option to hide the subtitles.

  • Adjustable text and interface size, separate voice and music volume, fullscreen.

  • Text in 15 languages: English, Portuguese (Brazil), Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Czech, German, Spanish, French, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Polish, Russian, Thai and Turkish.

Adult content
This game is for adults only (18+). It contains nudity and explicit, consensual sex scenes between adult characters, shown in images and animations. Some of these scenes depend on your choices: you can accept or decline.

Hey Travelers! It's not Aerith this time

This isn't Aerith talking anymore. I'm the guy who created this project. You can call me the Warrior.

I figured you might have a few questions, so here are some straight answers.

Do you make a living from this game?
Nope. I work at an adult visual novel studio, and that's where I put all my energy. My income comes from there too, so I don't depend on Etheriia's sales.

So you're not trying to get rich off this?
Not at all. My focus is 100% on learning. I want to learn more about you and what you enjoy in games, and keep coming up with more interactive ideas for adult visual novels.

Then why make it at all, if not for the money?

  • To learn. I already work at a big studio that releases very successful titles on Steam, and I'm happy with the success we've built there. I'm not looking for distractions.

  • To push games forward. Everything I create here helps me understand how game development works, and I bring more and better ideas back to my job.

  • To grow as a person. Making this game taught me to write better, build stories, code, and use a little bit of Blender. It pulled me deeper into the world of game development.

Is it coming out this year?
Yes, with just two stages. I'm building it solo and can't put a lot of hours into it.

How much will it cost?
I haven't decided yet, but it shouldn't go over $2, and it'll be even cheaper in some countries.

Will there be support?
Yes. Since I'm working alone, it might take me a little while, but the game shouldn't have many bugs.

If I don't like it, can I get a refund?
Absolutely.

Which studio do you work at?
I'm not sure I can say yet, and I don't want to lose focus over there. But even though my heart is in the studio I already work at, I don't want to waste your time here. So at the very least, I want to give you a good story.

Why not release it for free?
There aren't many, but I still have some costs to keep all this running. Whatever comes in helps.

Do you use AI?
Yes, for the voices, for parts of the environments, and for programming.
Never for characters or animations, not even simple ones.

Is that whole "the world is low quality" thing true?
Yep. It's my way of showing how hard it is to create something high quality, and Etheriia will evolve as you progress through the stages.

Do choices matter?

  • In the first stage, not really, but you'll enjoy the ride.

  • In the second stage, yes, but they're focused on gaining experience.

  • If stages 3, 4, and 5 happen, as I hope they will, your choices will matter completely.

Is the game any good?

  • I love it! It's funny, silly, and easy, but it builds toward an ending that might hit you harder than you expect. It runs deep, and the full story is going to be really rich.

  • The graphics are cheap, but that's Aerith's fault. I'll explain another time.

  • The animations are choppy, but with your help, they can get a whole lot better.

Is it worth buying?

  • Yes, if you don't mind being part of how visual novels get made.

  • Yes, if you want to give the project a hand.

  • No, if you're expecting an AAA visual novel.

Will there be a sequel?
Yes, I've already written it. I love writing, but making renders and animations without the time to focus, a team, or a budget is a real challenge. So no rush.

I love doing this, but it's not my main job. If it ever becomes one, things might be different. Right now, I love where I work. I love doing marketing for the studio, and now I'm handling the voices too. It's an amazing job, so that's where I need to give my all.

If you still want to pick up the game, you're more than welcome. I always set aside a few hours on weekends or at night to work on it. It's relaxing and it makes me happy. You can count on me.

Thanks for being here, Travelers.

AI Generated Content Disclosure

The developers describe how their game uses AI Generated Content like this:

Our game presents a humorous comparison between two creative worlds: one featuring images rendered and programmed in-house by our team, and the other showcasing AI-generated visuals. While we playfully illustrate the "competition" between these two approaches, it is important to note that 98% of the game comprises our own custom renders and programming. AI is used only in select humorous moments to enhance the overall experience without compromising our core content.
