What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“District VR recreates the feel of a real DJ booth in virtual reality, integrating with hardware audio drivers, professional DJ software like Rekordbox, and a wide range of VR headsets. Every DJ has their own setup and workflow, and the only way to get this right is to build it in the open with real DJs playing it daily and telling us what works.

Early Access lets us put the experience in your hands now while we iterate on the things that matter most — track import workflows, hardware compatibility, performance, the club environment, and the music ecosystem. Our [Discord community] is where this feedback loop lives, and your input directly shapes what we build next.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We plan to remain in Early Access for approximately 12 to 18 months. This gives us room to expand the music ecosystem, refine the club experience based on community feedback, and grow the progression systems on our roadmap. We'd rather take the time to ship a polished 1.0 than rush out of Early Access prematurely.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“We plan to expand District VR significantly before the full release. Areas we're working toward include:

- More environments beyond the current Berlin metro-inspired club, each with its own atmosphere.
- Deeper progression and customization — a larger in-game store, more mixer skins, expanded avatar options, and more ways to earn and spend $CD.
- Expanded music partnerships with additional record labels and artists in the in-game store, building on our Mobilee partnership.
- Broader hardware support for mixers, stem players, and FX units, plus continued improvements to Rekordbox and library integrations.
- Refined gameplay — ongoing polish on hand tracking, haptic feedback, audio latency, and performance across supported headsets.

These plans reflect our current direction and may evolve based on community feedback.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

District VR (v0.5) is a fully playable VR DJ experience. The current version includes:

- A Berlin metro-station-inspired club environment
- A 4-channel mixer with realistic CDJs and a dedicated stem player
- Hyper-realistic avatars via Avaturn
- Steam-backed account sync for settings, cue points, and rewards
- Rekordbox library import (playlists, cue points, metadata)
- ASIO low-latency audio driver support
- 10 built-in tracks plus a curated Mobilee record store
- An in-game currency ($CD) with daily login, playtime, and tutorial rewards
- An in-game store for tracks, albums, mixer skins, and avatar items
- A full voice-acted tutorial
- Recording, OBS streaming, microphone input, and multiple cameras
- Standing and seated play modes with adjustable desk angle
- Haptic feedback and refined hand tracking

The core DJ loop — load tracks, beatmatch, mix, perform, record — is fully functional. We're actively iterating on content volume, performance polish, and progression.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We plan to gradually raise the base price as we ship new content, environments, and major features during Early Access. Players who purchase early will get the lowest price and all future updates included. We're not planning to lock core features behind additional purchases — the in-game store is designed around optional cosmetic and music content, not gated gameplay.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

The community has been part of District VR since our closed beta, and that won't change. Here's how we're involving you:

- Discord-first development — our Discord server is where the team hangs out, takes bug reports, runs feature polls, and shares behind-the-scenes builds. You can speak directly with our developers there.
- Public roadmap and patch notes — we publish detailed release notes for every version so you know where development is heading.
- Feedback-driven prioritization — many features in v0.5 (Rekordbox import, seated mode, improved hand tracking, the 4-channel mixer) came directly from community requests. We plan to keep working this way.
- Playtests and early builds — we invite community members to test new features before they ship.
- Open dialogue with DJs — we work closely with both bedroom DJs and working professionals to make sure District VR feels right at every skill level.”
