What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Early Access allows me to gather crucial feedback on the game's core features. Because the game relies on deep mechanics—like 2D orbital physics and resource logistics—developing it alongside the community is essential. The goal is to evolve the game based on your input, ensuring these complex systems become as intuitive and accessible as possible.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“Our timeline for Early Access is dictated by our content milestones rather than a strict calendar. We anticipate development taking a couple of years. The first major phase will focus on polishing the existing 2D physics and resource systems based on your feedback, followed by the rollout of entirely new mechanics. We are committed to supporting Rocket Engineer well beyond its 1.0 launch.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The full version of Rocket Engineer will significantly expand on the mechanics, progression, and scope of the solar system. Our planned roadmap includes:
- Deeper Simulation & Logistics: Additional fuel types, electricity management, and expanded colony systems.
- Expanded Exploration: New celestial bodies and planets to discover, settle, and exploit.
- Structured Progression: A full Career Mode featuring science experiments, tech progression, and story-driven missions.
- More parts: A broader catalog of vehicle parts and colony buildings.
- UI & System Polish: Refined orbital navigation tools, an enhanced map view, and ongoing general improvements.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The Early Access launch provides a fully playable core gameplay loop. The current version includes:

2D Rocket Designer: A comprehensive location to design and construct your custom spacecraft.

The Inner Stellar System: Navigate realistic orbital mechanics between the Sun, Earth, the Moon, and Mars.

Colony Foundation: Establish off-world outposts with functioning resource extraction and processing mechanics.

Exploration Mode: A sandbox-style game mode that provides unlimited funds but challenges you to manage limited physical resources.

Orbital Navigation: A functional map view that allows you to see your current trajectory and know if you are going to encounter your destination.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Yes. As we release major content updates and introduce new mechanics during Early Access, we expect to gradually raise the price to reflect the growing scope and value of the game.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We want Rocket Engineer to be directly shaped by its players. The community will play a crucial role by reporting bugs, discussing gameplay balance, and suggesting ideas for future features. Our official Discord server (https://discord.gg/fWvnuceDwS) will serve as the central hub for our community, though we will also be actively monitoring and responding to feedback on the Steam Discussion Boards.”

About This Game

Design custom rockets and master 2D orbital mechanics to navigate a fully simulated solar system. Establish outposts, process local resources to launch interplanetary missions, and manage critical supply lines to keep your colony's workforce alive.

Features

Colonies

Colonies allow you to extract resources, process them, and use them for building rockets away from Earth. But be aware, workers are required and a constant food and water supply is imperative for them to keep them conscious, and even better, productive. Should they all go unconscious, any production would stop.

A fully simulated solar system

Rocket Engineer features a realistic physics system that allows you to propel your craft to new worlds, or to crash them spectacularly!

Part and building variety

From assembly storage to launchpad, from reaction wheel to colony founder, Rocket Engineer offers a wide variety of rocket parts to design the vehicle you need. Each part has its own properties, allowing you to choose the right part for the job.

Community

The community is at the core of Rocket Engineer’s iterative development. Suggestions and feedback will be taken into account every step of the way, as well as throughout the whole life of Rocket Engineer.
