What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Mad King's Lair has a tiny Development Team. When the game launches, it will absolutely have bugs which need to be worked out. Early access will feature a fully completed game and a discounted price. Our early fans will be helping us to clean up the game's many variables and event. Early access for us is nothing more than a QA Period to make sure the game is as high a quality as it can be.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“The game should be in early access for between 90 and 180 days while we complete our public QA pass and make sure that it is as bug free as it can be.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“It should be largely defect free. The game which enters Early Access will be content and functionally 100% complete. This game has No Microtransaction and no DLC. Any content updates will be free and part of the base game.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Right now, the build is a Time Traveling Waling Simulator. The game is 40% done, with 21 words completed, and the ability to travel cleanly across all 12 time frames and all of the zones. A public timeline is part of our support documentation and Steam Updates.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“The Early Access Price (for our Game Testers and Fans) is lower for the Alpha phase as a thank you for those helping us to make the experience as clean as it can be!”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“There will be Community Content Contests for objects built in Sketchup or Blender. And early access buyers will Get Access to Beta Builds of the game. We're entertaining the idea of Story Contests for Quests as well.

About This Game

In "Mad King's Lair: Tome of Destruction," players are plunged into a dark and immersive world brimming with puzzles, formidable enemies, and an ever-ticking clock counting down to the game's calamitous finale. This is a storyline driven by the urgency of a time loop, which sees the protagonist re-living the same three days in a desperate bid to prevent an impending disaster.

The heart of the gameplay revolves around the "Tome of Destruction," a magical artifact granting the ability to control time, amongst other mysterious powers. Players will need to utilize this tome to unravel secrets, defeat enemies, and solve intricate puzzles spread across a landscape tinged with an eerie yet captivating atmosphere.

As players delve deeper into the rich lore of the "Mad King's Lair," they will encounter a wide variety of characters, each carrying their burden and tale of sorrow, revealing a tapestry of stories that weave together to form a larger, tragically beautiful narrative. The game's protagonist must use wit and courage to navigate through a series of trials, retrieving lost artifacts and unlocking the true potential of the Tome to save the world from the mad king's ruinous plans.

The Artificer Wheel (A Manual Music Box made of Words), allows players to transform and utilize different abilities to overcome challenges and adversaries. Through mastering various spells and unlocking the secrets within the tome, players would have a toolset to approach puzzles and combat in a versatile and dynamic manner, encouraging experimentation and strategic thinking.

Much like its spiritual predecessors The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask and Dark Cloud, "Mad King's Lair: Tome of Destruction" maintains a dualistic theme of dread juxtaposed against hope, beckoning players to race against time in a world cloaked with impending doom yet illuminated by moments of heartwarming interactions and the potential for salvation.

This 3D Action Adventure Platformer features over 200 weapons, across 10 weapon types. Additionally, it has 12 Legend of Zelda Styled Tools which allow you to rewind time, change game mechanics, blow things up, animate objects, jump, fly, glide, swim, and interact with the world they way a game hasn't since the Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess.

As you play, you Collect Magic Words which unlock entries in the Artificer Grimoire or 'Grimm' for short. These words of power can be called upon at any point to Change the World, Teleport You, Change the Flow of Time, and alter the very Perception of the NPCs through the Sea of Steam.

This vivid, complex, and slightly macabre world provides an exhilarating setting for a journey of determination, sacrifice, and the relentless pursuit of hope in the face of adversity, which makes "Mad King's Lair: Tome of Destruction" a title that promises an engrossing experience rich with deep narrative and intricate gameplay mechanics.

In this Western Isekai Reincarnation Story, you, a forlorn soul awaiting reincarnation, are given a Part Time Job in the Mad King's Lair. However, in a blunder you accidentally awaken, and then lose the Tomes of Destruction, scattering them across the Sea of Steam. Together with a Motley cast of Characters, the Living Narration Tome 'Grimm', and the Mad King's Dour Butler, you have to find a way to save the world within the three allotted days. Fortunately, with the help of some Time Traveling Shenanigans, you just might be able to stop the books from falling into the wrong hands, or worse, stop yourself from getting fired.

Fully Voiced by a formally trained Cast, with some extra special Guest Stars for good measure, this 80+ hour story should keep you collecting, exploring, unlocking and laughing for quite a few hours to come!
