What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Keyframes is planned to encompass what would be the last two years of one’s college experience with a large cast at varying stages and developments of their life. With seven more seasons (episodes) to develop, the team wants to give our players the opportunity to experience each episodic content and all the compounding ways the narrative can adjust to their choices as soon as possible! As we develop, we’re also interested in player feedback so we can work toward a release that closely meets both the team’s and players’ expectations and hopes in our game.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We will remain in Early Access until all planned seasons of the game have been released. A tentative timeline of a minimum of five years, with major installments (either 1-2 seasons) releasing per year, is our optimistic goal considering recent production cycles.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The full version will have nine seasons, including complex worldstates as a result of relationship fall outs, budding romances, or unexpected life obstacles based on the players’ major decisions. The early access as it’s being developed will have the foundations for the diverging narrative, and assets that are subject to change and implementation (such as room decoration, voice acting, seasonal visuals, etc.).”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The update set to release on November 30th, 2026 will have just over 750k words in total, with the latest season (First Summer) delivering 440k new content from our demo (First Spring). Players who have experienced our demo can pick up from the end of their spring semester and start their summer break with their demo saves. ”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Pricing will be intermittently raised to reflect the additive content during Early Access. Once the game’s released, there will be a fixed price, coupled with regional pricing for our players outside of the US, that will receive changes during future sales and shifts in global currency/market.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Presently— and as a continuing practice until the game’s out of Early Access— the team runs a private Discord server where monthly build updates are shared to community members who have dedicated themselves as lifetime beta testers. Outside of that, we have open communications via our email for private feedback, an eye on public forums and social media for player response, and occasional community events where our audience can vote/suggest content that will get implemented in the game.

Regardless of where the feedback/response originates from, Keyframes is a game that aims to explore the highs and lows of young adulthood alongside diverse potential romantic partners and lifelong friends. Community feedback is beyond essential in ensuring that the team delivers a game that students, recent graduates— anyone who is excited and nervous about life’s trajectory— could relate to.

About This Game

An amare visual novel that focuses on what some have described as the “second” coming-of-age, the ephemeral nature of relationships and the work it requires to understand and empathize with one another.

Experience life as it happens, each chapter defined by the events and choices you make for yourself.

Play as one of four total personality types, changing aspects of your personality as the game continues. Forge close friendships, distance yourself from specific characters, bring in even more new faces, or choose love— that is, if you want to. Between an intricate system of impressions that depend on both the player’s decisions and a chosen combination of events and experience, no one playthrough will be quite like the others.

FEATURES

  • Hundreds of variations established via player choices

  • Play 3 of 5 possible events, in any order you choose (for a total of 60 possible combinations)

  • 1+ CG per event (with variations based on in-game choices)

  • Partial voice acting & original BGM

  • In-story UI— use your phone to select events and text/call with other characters

  • Quick time events (input-based and timed-choice) for added variability

  • Dynamic relationships— not only do you choose your perceptions of other characters, but other characters also change their impressions of you based on your words and actions

  • Reactive storytelling— dialogue and narration change in response to previously played events
