Friends Update Coming February 19

You’ve asked for it, and it’s almost here. The Friends Update will go live in Rocket League to make Cross-Platform Parties a reality on February 19 (pending first-party certification)!

All Your Friends In One Place
The Friends Update will bring a new Friends List to the main menu. Here, you’ll be able to see the online status of all of your Rocket League friends regardless of their platform. The Friends List is split into four tabs: Friends, RocketID, Recent Players, and Alerts.

The Friends Tab will display your friends on your current platform. The RocketID Tab will show your online friends on all other platforms. After the update, every player will be auto-assigned a RocketID, which will be your username followed by four randomly-generated numbers. You may change the word portion of your RocketID at any time.

The Recent Players tab conveniently shows players you were recently matched up with or against. If you had solid team chemistry with a randomly-matched player, you can easily send that player a Friend Request from the Recent Players tab if they are on a different platform.

Finally, the Alerts tab will house all of your player interactions like Friend Requests, Party Invites, and Club Invites. Yes, Clubs are now Cross-Platform, too!

Check out the video below to see the new user interface and learn everything you need to know about the Friends Update.

Extra Mode Training, Competitive Season 9 Rewards, Weekly Win Display, and More

Extra Modes are coming to Free Play! Following the update, you’ll be able to jump into Dropshot, Hoops, Snow Day, and Rumble to practice for as long as you’d like. Soon, you’ll be able to train and prepare for your journey to Grand Champ in the Extra Modes!

Additionally, Weekly Wins will no longer be a mystery. The Friends Update will add the number of Weekly Wins you have left, which will appear on your XP screen following each game.

And, as you may have seen in our previous Roadmap Blog, The Friends Update will deliver your Competitive Season Rewards based on your placement in Competitive Season 9. Check out our Spring Roadmap to learn more about those rewards.

Here’s the Friends Update at a glance:
  • Friends List with Cross-Platform Parties
  • Competitive Season 9 Rewards, start of Competitive Season 10
  • Extra Modes in Free Play
  • Weekly Win Display
  • Additional Bug Fixes and Improvements
  • … and more!

We’ll be sure to share the full patch notes once the Friends Update goes live on February 19 at 10:00 a.m. PST / 6:00 p.m. UTC on all platforms.

In-Game Event Canceled and Replaced

You may recall that we also mentioned an upcoming In-Game Event in last month’s Roadmap that was planned for the February update. Unfortunately, due to multiple factors behind-the-scenes, we have made the difficult decision to cancel our original plans and focus on another In-Game Event later in the year instead.

Please accept our sincerest apologies for the cancellation. To make it up to you, we'd like to give everyone the opportunity to get lots of cool in-game stuff via a weekend of combined Double XP AND Double Painted drop-rates starting March 7. The event will last four days and end on March 11. We hope you enjoy the extra drops and XP and hope to see you join us for the weekend!

The Inaugural Spring Season of Collegiate Rocket League is Here!

What a year 2018 was for Collegiate Rocket League (CRL)! After the first ever National Championship in Arlington, Texas (where the crowd was the true star), we were left wanting more CRL. To fuel that competitive fire in 2019, we’re launching the inaugural Spring Season of CRL for universities across the United States and Canada!

We’re taking a different approach compared to the Fall Season. The Spring Season will be focused on finding four conference champions to claim their share of $50,000 in scholarship prizing. Each conference will compete in a 16-team single-elimination bracket to determine the four best teams in the Spring Season. Eight invites will be given to teams that competed in the Fall 2018 Conference League Play. The remaining spots will be awarded to teams that make their way through the open qualifiers on February 16-17!

Don’t miss your chance to compete in the 2019 Spring Season. Head to the CRL Tespa registration page and sign up today! Be sure to stay tuned for updates on the CRL Spring Season and all things Rocket League Esports on the @RLEsports Twitter handle. See you this spring!

About This Game

Soccer meets driving once again in the long-awaited, physics-based sequel to the beloved arena classic, Supersonic Acrobatic Rocket-Powered Battle-Cars!

A futuristic Sports-Action game, Rocket League®, equips players with booster-rigged vehicles that can be crashed into balls for incredible goals or epic saves across multiple, highly-detailed arenas. Using an advanced physics system to simulate realistic interactions, Rocket League® relies on mass and momentum to give players a complete sense of intuitive control in this unbelievable, high-octane re-imagining of association football.

Awesome features include:

  • Season Mode that allows players to enjoy a full single-player experience
  • Extensive Battle-Car customizations with more than 10 billion possible combinations
  • Unlockable items and vehicles, stat tracking, leaderboards, and more
  • Addictive 8-player online action with a variety of different team sizes and configurations
  • Amazing 2-, 3-, and 4-player splitscreen mode that can be played locally or taken online against other splitscreen players
  • Broadcast-quality replays that allow you to fast forward, rewind, or view the action from anywhere in the arena
  • Competitive cross-platform gameplay with PlayStation®4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch users

SteamOS and Mac Beta Versions
As of September 8, 2016, the SteamOS and Mac versions of Rocket League® were released to "Beta." SteamOS is the only "officially" supported Linux client, though other Linux platforms may be compatible. Likewise, the Mac version may or may not work on older systems with an integrated video solution and a dedicated GPU is highly recommended (Macs from 2013 or after should be okay). Mac system requirements are as follows:

  • OS: MacOS X 10.8.5
  • Processor: Intel Core i5 2.4 GHz
  • Memory: 8 GB RAM
  • Graphics: OpenGL 4.1 - ATI Radeon HD 5670, NVIDIA GeForce GT 640M, Intel HD Graphics 4000 or Iris Pro Graphics

Be sure and check ongoing patch notes for SteamOS and Mac beta updates going forward. Listed below are all known issues for both versions of the game as of June 1, 2017:

  • The correct store page for DLC purchased through the Showroom doesn’t show up for Big Picture users. This is a Steam client-specific issue that Valve will be fixing in an upcoming patch
  • There are occasional crashes when exiting from a match to the main menu
  • The statues in Urban Central do not display correctly
  • You may experience intermittent blurring issues
  • (Mac Only) Xbox 360 controllers won’t work. You will need a third-party driver solution to use them
  • (Mac Only) Steam Controller is not natively supported

NOTE: Because of agreements with our online service provider, there are certain regions that are unable to connect to Rocket League®’s online multiplayer component. As a result, server access is restricted in China, Crimea, Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Sudan, and Syria. Apologies to our customers in those regions.
