🎯 Tactical Chess-Pattern Combat
Move across a clean 8×8 board using true chess move sets (Pawn, Knight, Bishop, Rook, Queen, King). Your current archetype and position decide which tiles you can threaten and how your weapons fire. Positioning = damage.

💓 Reactive Enemies + Global Heartbeat
No strict turns. Enemies telegraph and react to your steps, while a global “heartbeat” and wave tempo curve keep pressure high with micro-attacks, spikes, and boss surges.

🃏 Snap-Cast Buff Cards (Persistent Loadout)
Build a permanent card collection outside the run. At the start of each wave, you bring a 4-card hand—seeded by the last cards you finished the previous wave with. In-wave, cards act as short, timed buffs (damage, armor, speed, chess-form swaps, etc.) that exhaust for the wave, but stay in your collection for future runs.

🧩 Pre-Fight Attachments (No Mid-Fight Socketing)
Between waves, socket cards into weapons and armor to define your baseline build. Once the wave starts, attachments are locked in—you can’t re-socket mid-fight, so prep and planning really matter.

⚡ Energy & Combo = Aggression as a Resource
Kills and smart play feed your meters. Energy fuels card casts and special effects, while a combo bar builds toward a “CHECKMATE SURGE” that briefly boosts your damage and speed if you keep the streak alive.

🌈 Element Passives, Rotating Waves & Awakenings
Choose an element (Fire / Ice / Lightning / Nature / Shadow / Light) for your passive. Each wave rotates the arena’s active element, changing tile hazards and synergies. Survive deep enough and trigger Element Awakening for a big late-game power spike tied to your chosen element.

🌪️ Arena Modifiers & Mini-Objectives
Rotating board mutators—Blazing Board, Frozen Winds, Storm Surge, Cursed Ground, and more—paint tiles with hazards and perks. Optional mini-objectives (no damage, no cards, speed clear, etc.) reward bonus coins and progression if you play clean.

👑 Elites, Bosses & Endless Survival Scaling
Elites spike the pacing; bosses arrive with heavier scaling, unique arenas, and heartbeat-driven patterns. After the scripted waves, the game shifts into Endless Mode: a tighter 10-enemy cap, soft HP boosts over time for the player, escalating enemy stats, and dedicated Endless music tracks—how long can you survive?

💎 Rewards, Growth & Shop Flow
Each cleared wave showers you with coins and growth. Buy and upgrade weapons and armor, pick new cards, and push your base stats higher with progression curves that keep you powerful without trivializing enemies.

🎭 Progression, Codex & Customization
Choose your chess archetype and element, collect permanent cards, unlock Codex lore entries as you reach new waves, and earn coins (including harvesting income) with autosave after every wave so each run slowly shapes “your” Checkmate build.

✨ Cinematic Readability
Spawn rings, tile telegraphs, pattern previews, jump / hurt / crit / heal pop-ups and camera highlights turn every wave clear, clutch dodge, and last-hit on a boss into a tiny, shareable highlight moment.
