What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“At the moment, all core mechanics have been implemented, and the game already contains 200 levels that can keep the player busy for a several hours.

However, creating new levels is quite hard work. Designing each level not only takes 10+ times as long as its completion but also requires testing for unforeseen solutions that are not fun for the player.

Our main goal is to make a game that we would enjoy playing ourselves. To achieve that, we must design many high-quality levels tested by real players. Additionally, we aim to enhance the game in various other ways (outlined below).”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“For a several months, probably. This time may change, as we want to release the fully finished game.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“Future plans:
  • Many more levels – partially done;
  • Sound effects – partially done;
  • More localizations – partially done;
  • Linux and Mac support;
  • Controller supportdone;
  • Overall UX/UI improvementsdone;
  • Level Editor;
  • Steam features like Achievements, Workshop, etc.

These content and features will gradually be added to the game during Early Access.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Currently, the game has:
  • All core mechanics implemented;
  • Over 100 160 200 levels;
  • 5 interactive tutorials;
  • Localization in 2 6 23 languages.

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We are planning to increase the price when the game leaves Early Access.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“The least a player could do to help us develop the game is play it when new levels are added. When the player completes a level, their solution is automatically sent to us. Thus, we can check whether such a solution was intended and redesign the level if it wasn't.

Nevertheless, we will happily receive feedback from the community here on Steam or on our Discord server.”

About This Game

Math & Topology is a puzzle that challenges the topological and mathematical skills of the player.

Gameplay

The core gameplay mechanic is connecting tiles using lines. Tiles may be different types: plain, sources, targets, operators and bridges. The ultimate goal of each level is to fill all the target tiles with the corresponding numbers. To get the desired number, you can either obtain it from the source tile or combine some numbers in the operator tile.

However, obtaining target numbers is only half the battle in the game. Finding the path from tile to tile that does not interfere with the others is quite challenging too. And bridge tiles will help you to draw this spaghetti!

But bear in mind that some apparent paths could be insidious traps that prevent you from level completion!

Introduction

The game has over 120 introductory levels and several interactive tutorials teaching player core mechanics. They will show you what different tiles do, how to use each operator, and even how to deal with tricky levels.

The introduction is split into parts, each responsible for a specific game aspect. Each starts with a text description, then some levels focus on this aspect. Introduction parts for operators also contain interactive tutorials, visually demonstrating how an operator works.

Levels

Two tile shapes are used to build levels: square and hexagonal. The gameplay remains the same, as the shape only affects the neighbor count for each tile.

Some levels present only topological problems, as they do not contain any operators. Some require the player to consider how target or intermediate numbers are calculated. Some solutions fill the whole field. Some not. And sometimes it is necessary not to use some of the tiles!
