What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“The game currently features a healthy amount of content, and is playable and fun. However, as time goes on, I plan to expand on the game's story, monsters, and features, while utilizing player feedback to help guide further development. There are lots of ideas I have for Blue Ridge Hunting that aren't core to the game's experience, but I would still like to implement them. Your feedback will directly influence which content is expanded upon, and in what ways.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“Likely for about a year, as new content is added and fleshed out. However, it's possible this will change depending on player feedback and my plans for new features.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The full version of Blue Ridge Hunting is planned to feature a complete story in the campaign mode, with many more monsters, characters, items, and locations. Any present bugs are planned to be ironed out for a smoother experience. Additional game modes with higher difficulty for more experienced players are also planned. Player feedback will directly influence these planned features, and will be solicited from players to help guide development.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Currently, about a third of all planned monsters, items, and locations are available in the game. The story/campaign mode contains the prologue and first act. Freeplay mode is available, and includes all monsters found in the campaign mode, plus a couple extras.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“No, I plan to keep the price the same.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“I very much want to hear about player's experiences with the game. Your feedback will directly guide development moving forward. The Blue Ridge Hunting Discord server is the main location which feedback will be solicited from. Suggestions for new items, monsters, locations, etc. will all be considered.”

About This Game

In Blue Ridge Hunting, team up with friends to investigate, document, and take down these terrifying creatures lurking in the shadows. Explore expansive, open-world maps inspired by real locations across the Appalachian region, and come face-to-face with some of its most feared and mysterious beasts.

The Appalachian Mountains are steeped in some of America's most chilling folklore, home to legendary cryptids and unexplained phenomena. Step into the boots of the Appalachian Investigation Group, a team dedicated to tracking these elusive creatures. Using a range of tools and equipment, gather evidence, follow the clues, and embark on high-stakes hunts based on real sightings and local legends.

Earn money from successful investigations and upgrade your gear at Levi’s cabin to take on even greater threats. But beware: you're not alone out there. These creatures are always watching... and listening.

  • Found Footage: A gritty retro/PSX art style inspired by early 3D horror and analog media.

  • Always Listening: Creatures react to proximity voice chat and radio chatter. Communication is crucial, but dangerous.

  • Into the Woods, Solo or Together: Explore the Appalachian wilds alone or with up to 5 players in online co-op freeplay mode.

  • Bump In The Night: A narrative-driven story (1–3 players) following the Appalachian Investigation Group’s hunt for the truth.

  • Experience The Legends: Face unique, intelligent creatures based on real Appalachian legends and folklore.

  • Dark-Bluegrass Symphony: An original score that blends haunting melodies with Appalachian roots, amplifying the tension and tone.

Mature Content Description

The developers describe the content like this:
