What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“For the moment i cannot speak about a complete game, because it's not one.
I would be pleased if players want to participate in this project (with suggestions or bugs report by exemple), it will help to create a better game, the early access is a great opportunity to achieve this.
I think early access is a good choice right now for showing that ANVIL is arrived.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“It's not possible for me to say how long the early access will last, because I have no date at all to give.
There are a lot of ideas to put in place, so a lot of updates to do.
The early access will be regularly uploaded with new maps, new quests, a gameplay comfort improvement, news features, bugs corrections and more.
To recap:
i don't have a date for the moment, but the updates will be regular ANVIL will be developed with the time and when it will be ready, we'll be able to talk about a full version, so yes, it will be long.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The early access is just a small demonstration of the game, the result with the full game will be different of it.
ANVIL will want to be as realistic as possible, for that the motion capture wil be used for animations and photogrammetry for environments.
The early access have a small demonstration map, the final game will have bigger maps.
The final product will have a lot of interesting quests and fun to play, the relations with the NPCs will be advanced, some professions to do like having a store for example (but a lots of theses features will be added before in the early access).
A interesting PVE fighting system with a crutial choice of builds and weapons.
A visual rendering close to reality, a more advanced character creator and more others features which might be requested by the community.
ANVIL is designed for to be very modular, so designed to add contents "without" problems, everything was thought like that from the creation start.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The first version of the early access is the v.1.3.0.
You can already create your character, after you will able to choose between 2 maps, the Vikings or Templars map and realise some quests.
For the v.1.3.0, you will only have access to the Vikings map.
For the map of the templars you must wait for v.2.0.0, this update will be released in a few weeks.
For see how the ANVIL's early access look like, you can refer to the official Youtube channel of the game, you will find there the firt 20 min of the 1.3.0 version.
This version contains some quests to do, for more information about these quests, you can find a tutorial on the discord and the Steam forum.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“When you buy the early access, the price of this one will be subtracted of the final game price.
Don't forget the final version is not out, have no date and don't have a official price.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“I have really hope ANVIL will have a communauty strong and passionate.
The tools proposed for the communauty is for the moment the official ANVIL "Discord" (you can find the link on "Join de communauty" part, just click on the banner) and the official forum from Steam (Hub ANVIL).”

Contents

ANVIL will gradually obtain new updates.
All traditional features will be implemented, like cooking, fishing, make restoratives via herbalist system from plants with harvest, learn new professions like blacksmith, farmer, tamer for example.
The PVE fighting system will be advanced with crucial choice of builds and weapons.
Many builds and medieval weapons are planned (like flail 1/2 hands, spear, hammer, longsword and more)
About the quests system you will find 2 main lines, the first will be the main story and the second will be the secondary quests.
The follower system will also be advanced too, you will be able via a relation system to create strong relations with NPCs which can go as far as creating a couple.
You can find the karma system in ANVIL, very important feature, if you get bad karma with bad deeds (like killing innocent people, robbing goods...) you will be heavily penalized to the point you won't be able to finish the game.
All of this and more will appear over time, which is why the game is currently in early access.
