What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Project Malice is not going to be finished any time soon, but I wanted to release it early in case there are people who would like to give the game a shot before it's finished. I want to make sure that the product is as close as I can get to perfect before I release the full version, and Early Access will help with that tremendously.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“It will most likely be in early access for a few months or so, but it will take as long as it needs to be. My current plan is around Q1 of 2023, but that may be pushed back if I run into major issues or decide to expand the scope of the game.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“Act II, or the Early Access version, is approximately 2/3 the size of the full game, so the full version will be the same but with more content. Some things like areas, bosses, and achievements will not be available or only partially available if they are still a work in progress. I will do small content updates and patches while the game is in Early Access.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The game is currently incomplete and cannot be "finished", but has enough content to provide a (hopefully) enjoyable experience. There is a variety of playable characters, a few main bosses and some secret ones, tons of enemies and items, and some secret areas to explore. There will be more of these as the game's development progresses.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“The price will stay roughly the same, but there might be a slight price increase to reflect the content added in the future.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“I will listen to feedback people have about the game and will strive to make it as enjoyable as possible to the extent of my abilities. If any players encounter issues with the game or would like to provide feedback, please post in the steam forums or contact me directly via email, twitter, or discord.”

About This Game

The year is 213X. Earth has gone to s**t.

The infected roam the streets. They've killed everything you live for. Your kings have fled to the cosmos. Your gods have stopped answering your prayers. Your money is worthless. You have nowhere to go. Hunger and thirst begins to set in. There is no hope. Only pain and suffering.

But perhaps, amidst the chaos... you can find something to make your time worthwhile. This is where it all began... and this is where it will end. The future of humanity is in your hands.

Project Malice is an isometric third person shooter roguelike about a ruined Earth, and those who are unfortunate enough to dwell on it. What started off as just an uncontrollable outbreak of infection transformed into something far much worse.

  • A myriad of enemies, like a lot of enemies
  • Bosses that will curb stomp you to a pulp
  • Tons of random whatever to collect
  • Allies who are dumb enough to follow you around
  • Dialogue that lets you really get to know the characters
  • A bunch of secrets and extra challenges for you to walk past
  • Cameos from other games
  • Way too much lore

This game was originally created for Ludum Dare 49, which eventually spiraled into something much more. I wanted it to be an amalgamation of everything I've made up until this point, so the game contains a lot of references to my other games which take place in the same universe. It's possible you might need to play some of those if you would like to understand the full scope of the settings, characters, and story.
